Requirements:

- Previous experience as an Athletic Trainer is a plus, but not required

Responsibilities:
- Provide expert consultation, diagnosis, and treatment for orthopedic sports injuries for patients of all ages
- Work closely with professional sports teams in the area to provide high-quality care and promote injury prevention
- Conduct clinic appointments to assess and treat patients, including administering injections, splints, and braces
- Participate in OR procedures as needed, providing assistance to surgeons and performing sutures and other minor procedures
- Maintain accurate and thorough medical records and collaborate with the healthcare team to develop individualized treatment plans

A Brief Overview
The Physician Assistant (PA) functions under this Physician Assistant Job Description approved by the Interdisciplinary Practice Committee (IDPC). What you will do

B. A PA shall consult with a physician regarding any task, procedure or diagnostic problem which the PA determines exceeds his/her level of competence or shall refer such cases to a supervising physician.
C. Scope of Practice of the PA:
1. Evaluates and treats patients with acute, chronic complaints and health maintenance concerns related to specialty.
2. Obtains complete histories and performs pertinent physical exams with assessment of normal and abnormal findings on new and return patients.
3. Performs or requests and evaluates diagnostic studies as indicated upon evaluation of the patient.
Orders or furnishes medications under physician supervision, in accordance with the practice agreement, consistent with the PA’s educational preparation and training, and upon completion of a California Physician Assistant Board approved controlled substance course.
a. All PA’s who are credentialed and privileged by April, 2021 who have not completed a controlled substance course must successfully complete the course by August 31, 2021 during which time patient specific approval of a medication order by a supervising physician is obtained, documented in the medical record, and is co-signed. [see Standardized Procedure: Administering, Ordering, Furnishing or Prescribing of Drugs; Formulary Protocol]
4. Orders and collects specimens for routine laboratory tests, screening procedures and therapeutic procedures, including blood and blood products.
5. Orders physical therapy, occupational therapy, respiratory therapy, radiology examinations and nursing services.
6. Performs designated procedures after demonstrated competency, according to written standardized procedures where applicable.
7. Obtains informed consent, as indicated.
8. Initiates arrangements for hospital admissions and discharges and completes appropriate paperwork.
9. As directed by the supervising physician, enrolls patients in investigational studies approved by the Investigational Review Board (IRB), and orders the necessary tests and medications. [see Standardized Procedure : Administering, Ordering, Furnishing or Prescribing of Drugs; Formulary Protocol] Medications that are not FDA-approved or are used for a non-FDA- approved indication (off-label use) require a patient-specific order in advance from the supervising physician.
10. After appropriate training, assists the supervising physician in the operating room (OR).
a. Acts as first or second assistant under the supervision of an approved supervising physician.
b. Performs surgical procedures in the personal presence of the supervising physician.
11. Recognizes and considers age-specific needs of patients.
12. Effectively communicates and interacts with patients, families, staff and members of the community from diverse backgrounds.
13. Recognizes situations which require the immediate attention of a physician, and initiates life-saving procedures when necessary.
14. Facilitates the coordination of inpatient and outpatient care and services as needed.
15. Facilitates collaboration between providers and coordination of community resources.
16. Ensures compliance with legal, regulatory and clinical policies and procedures.
17. Participates in quality improvement initiatives.
18. Provides and coordinates patient teaching and counseling.

Chinese Hospital | San Francisco Bay Area About This Role Department Clinics Reports to Medical Director Type Full Time Requisition # 12539 Position Summary Works as a clinician and provides direct patient care with other healthcare professionals as they relate to outpatient medical care at one of our four clinics. The clinician adheres to the adequacy and appropriateness of medical care provided to clinic patients. Represents clinic health services in community relationships and provides assistance in the growth of the clinic. Essential Duties And Responsibilities Based on 40 hours per week, with Saturday rotation. One weekday off in lieu of the Saturday worked. Provide primary medical care to patients for acute and chronic problems and preventative health needs. Communicate and collaborate with other primary care providers, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, specialists, ancillary care providers, mental health professionals, medical assistants, administrative staff, and other members of the medical care team to optimize care coordination for patients in primary care panel Provide on call coverage for after-hours phone advice as a member of the pool Complete medical documentations on all patient encounters in a timely fashion consistent with Primary Care Services policies Complies with all clinic policies, procedures and guidelines designed to ensure the provision of adequate, comprehensive care. Collaborate with the Medical Director and Clinic Management team to meet and improve patient outcome and quality of care. Work with the Medical Director and Clinic Management team to collaborate on policies, standards and specific patient problems. Supervise midlevel practitioners. Serves as a member of the organized medical staff, attends medical staff meetings and ensures adherence to the medical staff bylaws, rules, and regulations. Participates in the development and implementation of educational programs with the clinic staff and the community. Participates in performance improvement and patient experience programs. Follows Hospital and Department policies and procedures at all times, including but not limited to: Administrative Manual, Environment of Care, Human Resources, Infection Control, Corporate Compliance, Code of Ethics, etc. Attend, actively participate and complete in-services, training classes, mandatory classes, seminars/workshops, staff meetings, exercises and drills; reads all department communication and assigned materials. Customer Service – Provides excellent customer service and shows compassion to all patients, visitors and co-workers. Seeks feedback to ensure all needs are met. Anticipates and recognizes the concerns of others, even if those concerns are not openly expressed. Accepts and performs other duties as assigned. Qualifications Required Completed an accredited residency program, be board certified or eligible (if within one year of residency graduation) in Family Medicine/Internal Medicine Possess and maintain a valid California medical license to practice medicine in the State of California. Current Drug Enforcement Administration Registration BLS certification Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing Excellent interpersonal skills Excellent writing and presentation skills Computer skills needed for Electronic Medical Records Preferred Ability to communicate effectively in Chinese (Cantonese or Mandarin) preferred. Additional languages a plus Administrative experience a plus Knowledge of community resources and cultural needs Physical Requirements While performing the duties of this job, staff is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk, and/or listen. He/she uses his/her hands to do computer work, write reports, do equipment set-up/cleaning/storage, clerical support, etc. He/she will be using the phone frequently. Good vision is needed to be able to read schedules, enter accurate data, etc. He/she must have good general health and demonstrate emotional stability so as to carry out the above-enumerated duties. Able to lift up to 30 pounds. Stand, walk, and move 50% of the day. Use proper body mechanics when handling equipment. Compliance Requirements Complies with Chinese Hospital Compliance Handbook including Code of Ethics and all statutes, regulations, guidelines applicable to federal and state programs. Responsibilities include, following the guidelines and reporting suspected violations of any statute, regulations, agreements or guidelines applicable to all healthcare programs. Base Pay Scale Starting at $176,320– $274,165 per year. The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training. This pay scale is not a promise of a particular wage.
