Operating Room Registered Nurse Job Summary:
The Registered Nurses is responsible for diagnosing responses to actual or potential health problems and for providing basic emergent, supportive, and restorative care through use of the nursing process. Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served in assigned responsibility.

- Meets the physical demands of the position.
- Demonstrates ability to cope with and function under stress.
- Meets skill certification requirements for designated units.
- According to age and developmental level of the patient, systematically assesses the patient's physical, psychosocial, emotional, cultural, spiritual and discharge needs.
- Evaluates the plan of care and reformulates the goals as necessary.
- Recognizes unsafe and life‑threatening situations and intervenes appropriately.
- According to age and developmental level of the patient, systematically assesses the patient's physical and psychosocial needs for the purpose of establishing a nursing diagnosis. Includes discharge needs in the initial assessment.
- Completes assessments utilizing basic interview and observational skills, and adds new information obtained on an ongoing basis.
- Determines the presence, nature and priority of immediate patient problems.
- Observes changes in physiological and emotional status and alters plan of care appropriately.
- Re-assesses each assigned patient with appropriate frequency based on his/her condition.
- Assesses and identifies appropriate learning needs according to age, developmental level, readiness and ability of the patient and family/significant other utilizing appropriate resources.
- Identifies factors from the patient's history that may influence his ability to communicate and determines barriers to communication.
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing required.
- BSN preferred
- Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in the state of Connecticut required.
- Current AHA Healthcare Provider CPR certification or equivalent within duration of orientation period.
- Must be proficient in Reasoning, Math, Reading, Writing, Speaking clearing and with confidence.
- Must be proficient in Analyzing, Supervising, Instructing, Compiling and Customer Service.
- Clinically competent RN who demonstrates expertise in one or more of the following areas: (SDA or ODS).
- Clinically competent RN who demonstrates expertise in the perioperative field.
- Performs circulating and/or scrub duties.
- Demonstrates understanding and practice of aseptic technique.
- Must have a mechanical ability to deal with a large number of machines and special equipment in the department, such as:
