The responsibilities of this job include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Implementing Patient First's policies and procedures;
  • Offering quality nursing care and generating a genuinely warm and friendly atmosphere for patients and employees;
  • Providing nursing care in the ambulatory setting to individual patients and families;
  • Using sound judgment when administering medical care and screening patients;
  • Administering medications and knowing correct dosage, actions, and side effects of each medication administered;
  • Assisting the physician in all emergency cases;
  • Providing positive, warm and friendly customer service in all interactions;
  • Fostering teamwork and a positive, professional atmosphere;
  • Completing other duties as directed.

Minimum education and professional requirements include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Employee must be at least 18 years of age;
  • High school graduate or equivalent;
  • Keyboarding experience required;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
  • One year of clerical experience preferred;
  • One year of clinical experience with administration of medications preferred;
  • Licensed to practice as a Nurse in the state of Virginia.

Participates in the collection of patient data as needed. Determines nursing care needs through recognition of relationships between data gathered and a patient's health status and treatment regimen. Identifies relevant resources based on necessity and availability. Communication: Communicates information to others responsible for or involved in the care of the patient. Participates in dialogue with the patient/chosen support system to identify the individualized care plan. Consistently utilizes appropriate communication tools such as Situation, Background, Assessment, Recommendation, and Question (SBARQ) when communicating within the interdisciplinary team and when handing off patient care. Documents appropriate information in a timely manner. Teamwork: Participates as part of the interdisciplinary care team in planning individualized care. Collaborates with the registered nurse to consider ongoing modification of care plan based on patient’s needs, capabilities, and condition. Medical Knowledge: Demonstrates core knowledge of biomedical and clinical sciences and the application of this knowledge to patient care. Identifies nursing interventions and goals for the patient and reviews goals with the registered nurse. Identifies opportunities for process improvement, evidence-based practice, and research. The incumbent may be asked to perform additional duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS Education: High School Diploma required. Graduate of accredited Practical Nursing Program required.
