Director of Nursing – Essential Responsibilities

The DON oversees all nursing operations to ensure compliance, quality care, and effective team leadership.

  • Plan, direct, and supervise nursing staff and daily clinical operations

  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations

  • Develop, implement, and update nursing policies and procedures

  • Maintain appropriate staffing levels to meet resident needs and regulatory standards

  • Participate in annual Federal, State, and Local surveys

  • Review and address deficiencies identified during inspections

  • Manage the Nursing Department within budget guidelines

  • Conduct annual performance evaluations and provide coaching and education

  • Administer counseling and disciplinary actions when necessary

  • Oversee staff training and ongoing education

  • Ensure adherence to infection control and safety protocols

Education, Licensure & Experience

Required:

  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program

  • Previous Director of Nursing (DON) or Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) experience

Preferred:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BSN) or related field

  • Minimum 3 years of RN experience
