We are seeking a second Director of Nursing (DON) to oversee administrative operations and provide leadership and oversight to the nursing staff at our 42-bed skilled nursing facility in Gardner, KS. Our facility consists of one SNF separated into two distinct buildings. This position will serve as the DON for one of the two buildings, as the other already has a DON in place.

The ideal candidate will be knowledgeable about the daily operations of a skilled nursing facility and well-versed in both federal and state regulatory requirements. They will ensure nursing staff are properly trained in delivering high-quality care, that the facility is staffed appropriately, and that compliance is maintained at all times.

We are looking for an energetic, strong leader who can balance compassion with authority and set clear, professional boundaries with both staff and residents.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Train, mentor, and educate all nursing staff.

  • Plan, coordinate, and lead nursing in-services and hands-on skill competencies.

  • Maintain a safe and compliant environment for both patients and staff.

  • Effectively manage multiple priorities and issues simultaneously.

  • Demonstrate a strong understanding of federal and state regulations governing long-term care facilities.

  • Utilize strong interpersonal and communication skills to support staff, patients, and families.

  • Oversee the hiring, counseling/disciplining, and termination processes for nursing staff.

  • Communicate with patients and families with compassion, professionalism, and discretion.

  • Lead and direct the clinical survey process and ensure ongoing regulatory readiness.

  • Assist with mock surveys, internal audits, and development or revision of clinical policies and procedures as needed.

  • Lead the daily morning clinical meeting.

  • Report to state regulatory agencies when required or requested.

  • Attend Care Conferences, Medicare meetings, High-Risk meetings, and QAPI committee meetings. 

Qualifications:

Must be a RN that is able to practice in the state of KS

Graduate of an accredited nursing program

Ability to pass a criminal background check

Previous DON experience in a LTC facility required

Must be extremely knowledgeable about state and federal nursing home regulations

Willing to work with a diverse population of seniors and those with disabilities

Recent LTC/SNF DON (Required)
