Join University of Chicago Medicine, as an Advanced Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant) as part of the Inpatient Vascular Neurology (Stroke) Service.
The Advanced Practice Provider engages in complex medical decision making to provide comprehensive medical management to their caseload of patients. They rapidly assess, diagnose, and initiate emergency stroke interventions and work closely with the Emergency Department, Neuro critical care, Neuro interventional, and Neuro surgical teams. The scope of practice also includes family support, teaching, staff education, consultation, and research.
As the Neurology Advanced Practice Provider, you will manage our acute stroke neurology patients and will leverage knowledge of neurological testing and imaging, acute stroke treatment plans, and neurovascular intervention.
The ideal candidate will have clinical experience in Vascular Neurology, hospital medicine or critical care that can be applied to care for a diverse patient population and the full range of stroke diagnoses and medical comorbidities. As a member of the inpatient Vascular Neurology service, the Neurology APP will join a seasoned group of APPs who manage our primary Stroke service patents and respond to acute stroke codes and consultation requests from emergency services, inpatient units, and all critical care areas throughout the hospital. The APP works with a multidisciplinary team including resident physicians and neurovascular fellows to respond to acute stroke emergencies, medically optimize patients and coordinate timely discharge to next point of care.
Attending physicians hold frequent rounds and are always available to discuss cases and treat patients. Radiology, pathology, and case conferences complement direct patient care.

Job Requirements
A Nurse Practitioner OR Physician Assistant with:
- Master of Science in Nursing or Doctorate in Nursing Practice OR Master’s Degree from an accredited Physician Assistant program
- Current and/or eligibility for State of Illinois RN and APN OR PA licensure/registration
- ACLS Certification from the American Heart Association (AHA) and by the National Commission on the Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) if a Physician Assistant
- 2 or more years’ experience as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant strongly preferred
- Neurology, critical care, or hospital medicine experience preferred
- NIHSS certifications within 6 months of hire
- Demonstrated clinical competency
- Experience conducting clinical trials
- Effective leadership and teaching skills

UChicago Medicine is committed to transparency in compensation and benefits. The pay range provided reflects the anticipated wage or salary reasonably expected to be offered for the position.
The pay range is based on a full-time equivalent (1.0 FTE) and is reflective of current market data, reviewed on an annual basis. Compensation offered at the time of hire will vary based on candidate qualifications and experience and organizational considerations, such as internal equity. Pay ranges for employees subject to Collective Bargaining Agreements are negotiated by the medical center and their respective union.
