POSITION SUMMARY
The Assistant Director of Nursing (“ADON”) is responsible for assisting the Director of Nursing in the overall management, supervision, and direction of the nursing services department. Under the direction of the DON, the ADON is responsible for the planning, direction, and evaluation of effective and comprehensive nursing care practices which promote, maintain, and restore the wellbeing of all patients.
Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) Duties and Responsibilities:
Directs and supervises Unit Managers, RN Supervisors and Charge Nurses RN/LPN in effectively accomplishing their duties.
Acts as liaison between Director of Nursing Services and Unit Managers/RN Supervisors/Charge Nurses RN/LPN
Acts as a resource person in all areas of resident care.
Assumes responsibility for coordinating Medical Director/Medical Staff/Consulting Physician rounds.
Ensures that nursing services staffing needs and schedules are met.
Assists in the interpretation of facility nursing policies and ensures implementation of these policies.
Assists in recruitment and selection of nursing services employees.
Assumes all responsibilities of the Director of Nursing Services in his/her absence.
Responsible for documenting disciplinary concerns for RN Supervisors and Charge Nurses RN/LPN.
Verifies that significant clinical developments are reported to the resident's physician and family.
Ensures Medicare guidelines are met.
Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) Requirements:
Must possess valid unencumbered, RN State License. Nursing degree from an accredited college or university preferred.
Minimum three (3) years of clinical nursing experience within a hospital, nursing care center or other related healthcare setting.
Must have experience in supervision and principles, practice of teaching, etc.
Experience in rehabilitative and restorative nursing practices strongly preferred.
Must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age-related needs of the residents served.
Must be a supportive team member, contribute to and be an example of teamwork and team concept.
Strong communication skills with the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel, and the general public.
Must be knowledgeable of nursing and medical practices and procedures, as well as laws, regulations, and guidelines that pertain to nursing care facilities.
Associate degree in nursing, public health, epidemiology, clinical laboratory science, medical technology or related field.
Has completed specialized training in infection prevention and control.
Certification in Infection Control and Epidemiology preferred.
PREREQUISITES, SKILLS, & ABILITIES
Associate degree from an accredited school of nursing required. Bachelors of Science in Nursing
(BSN) Preferred.
Active, unencumbered licensure as a Registered Nurse in the state of employment.
Ability to lead diverse team of individuals.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Strong ability to make independent decisions and work without direct supervision.
Ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government personnel, and the public.
Must have thorough knowledge of current standards of nursing practice.
Must have a thorough understanding of the survey process and quality measures.
Must be knowledgeable of computer systems and applications.
Excellent customer service focus.
