JOB SUMMARY: The  Nurse Aide Training Program Instructor (RN) is assigned the education responsibility and accountability for Bridgewater Center’s nurse aide training program by assisting the lead program instructor. This individual has day-to-day responsibility for implementing Bridgewater Center's training program in accordance with the facility’s policies and procedures and State and federal requirements.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Follows a lesson plan for the Nurse Aide Training Program that includes classroom and clinical training combined for at least 100 hours duration.

Conducts interviews with applicants for the Nurse Aide Training Program to determine eligibility for acceptance into the class.

Schedules class dates and time in cooperation with the Staff Development Coordinator and Program Coordinator.

  • Assists in teaching the Nurse Aide Certification course;
  • Coordinates students’ clinical and classroom experiences within the facility.

Completes each nurse aide trainee’s performance record of major duties and skills learned and demonstrated.

• Facilitates the Clinical Skills Evaluator/Nurse Aide Evaluator nurse aide competency evaluations as scheduled.

  • Participates in departmental meetings to assess and coordinate nurse aide training;

Puts Resident Service First: Ensures that residents and families receive the highest quality of service in a caring and compassionate atmosphere that recognizes the individual's needs and rights.

  • Provides clinical and classroom instruction;

Schedules additional health care personnel to supplement instruction to provide specialized training, assuring that such supplemental trainers have at least one year of experience in their field of expertise.

  • Other duties as requested and assigned.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing with current registered nursing licensure in New York
  • A minimum of one year of experience as a Registered Nurse in a nursing home.
  • Demonstrates competency to teach adult learners as evidenced and documented by at least one of the following:
  • Completion of a professionally recognized course in teaching adult learners or
  • New York State Education Department teacher certification;
  • Two years of experience teaching nursing or nursing related programs to adults in an academic setting approved by the State Education Department or other recognized accrediting body; or
  • Two years of experience teaching nurse aides in a residential health care facility.
  • Communicate orally and in writing with residents, families, staff and the public.
