Summary
Coordinates and expedites patients through the Emergency Department while balancing patient workload and acuity evenly among various nursing zones. Provides bed assignments for incoming emergency department patients; communicates intradepartmental patient movement to emergency registrars; collaborates with charge physician when problems or bottlenecks occur; provides direct patient care to maintain patient flow.

Formal Education Required
- Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing (BSN)
- Applicants with an Associate’s degree will be considered but are required to obtain BSN within three (3) years of employment
- Graduate of a program of professional nursing that is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) or Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN)
- Current license to practice registered nursing in the State of Ohio
- Three (3) years nursing experience in an emergency department.
- Current license to practice nursing in the State of Ohio
- Current ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification
- Current TNCC (Trauma Nurse Core Curriculum) certification for required work locations
- Current NVCI certification for required work locations
- Ability to provide coverage at free standing emergency department sites as needed.
- Demonstrates a high level of clinical competence that is recognized by peers.
- Ability to effectively communicate clearly and sensitively verbally and in writing with physicians, employees, patients and families, healthcare professionals and others.
- Ability to assume collegial relationships with physicians, other health care providers, and patients/families.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Ability to prioritize work and solve problems.
- Ability to expedite processes by coordinating the work efforts of others.
- Assumes accountability for demonstrating behaviors consistent with the customer service policy.
- Population Specific Competency: Ability to effectively interact with populations of patients/customers with an understanding of their needs for self-respect and dignity.
