About the Position: This position is located at Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center, Labor, Delivery, Recovery, and Postpartum Unit, Fort Hood, Texas.

 

Fort Cavazos is a United States Army post located in the beautiful 'hill and lake' country of Central Texas between Killeen and Copperas Cove and is approximately 60 miles north of the capital city of Austin, 50 miles south of Waco, 160 miles south of Dallas, and 150 miles north of San Antonio. The post is named after Gen. Richard E. Cavazos, a native Texan and the US Army’s first Hispanic four-star general. Formerly named Fort Hood for Confederate General John Bell Hood, the post is located halfway between Austin and Waco, about 60 mi from each, within the U.S. state of Texas. The post is the headquarters of III Armored Corps and First Army Division West and is home to the 1st Cavalry Division and 3rd Cavalry Regiment, among others.

 

Its origin was the need for wide-open space to test and train with World War II tank destroyers. The War Department announced the location in January 1942, and the initial completion was set for that August. As originally constructed, Fort Cavazos had an area of 158,706 acres, with billeting for 6,007 officers and 82,610 enlisted personnel.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as Charge Nurse which includes assigning duties, ensuring staff work is accomplished timely, reviewing nursing care plans, and advising attending physicians of significant changes in a patient's condition.
  • Lead patient care conferences and conduct classes as part of continuing in-service training such as electronic fetal monitoring, grief support, intra-operative care, antepartum, intrapartum, postpartum, and normal newborn transition care.
  • Assist physicians and anesthesia providers with complex procedures such as insertion of internal monitors, placement of epidural catheters, placement of invasive monitoring lines (i.e. arterial, cordis), and induction of general anesthesia.
  • Administer potent intravenous (including IV push) drugs such as labor induction agents, antihypertensives, insulin, blood products, and magnesium sulfate.
  • Perform the circulation role in the operating room for planned and emergency cesarean-section, dilatation and curettage, cervical cerclage, and cesarean-hysterectomy.
  • Utilize the nursing process to formulate a nursing plan of care relative to patient’s physiological, psychological, and sociological condition in order to provide ongoing and in-depth assessment of patient problems, strengths and limitations.

PURPOSE AND SCOPE: The professional registered nurse Outpatient RN CAP 1 is an entry level designation into the Clinical Advancement Program (CAP). Baylor Scott & White Health Medical Center is seeking a Full Time Registered Nurse to join our Ortho Trauma Progressive Care Unit (5 South). Baylor Scott & White Memorial Hospital is a 636-bed specialty care teaching hospital and the only Level 1 Trauma Center between Dallas and Austin. Schedule: Full Time - 36 hours per week Unit Summary This is a 35-bed monitored nursing unit that provides the opportunity to work with a wide variety of patients ranging from adults to Geriatrics. The conditions that are within the scope of service include the following but are not limited to: Post ICU trauma patients (serious traumatic injury to 2 or more body systems) Complex Plastic reconstructive surgeries (including reconstructive flaps and graft sites, post cancer reconstruction, and trauma related reconstruction) Complex ENT patients including free muscle flaps and neck dissections.
