Job Description:
POSITION SUMMARY
The Diagnostic Imaging RN is an integral part of the DI team, providing care to ER patients, inpatients and out-patients in the DI Department. Provides nursing care according to Marshall Medical Center’s (MMC’s) standard of practice while caring for the pediatric, adult, elderly, acutely ill or chronically ill patient and is qualified and prepared to handle unexpected emergencies that occur during any radiological procedure. Maintains good public relations by interacting with patients, visitors, physicians, other staff members and the nursing units in a friendly and professional manner.
Administers intravenous (IV) contrast and other medications to patients undergoing diagnostic procedures at Marshall Medical Center. Acts as the physician’s assistant for all interventional procedures performed in the department and is the principle resource for patient care. Assists in the pre and post care needs of patients undergoing diagnostic procedures; maintains all pertinent documentation of patients undergoing interventional procedures and performs necessary follow-up. This position also assists in the preparation and education of patients undergoing diagnostic exams and performs all aspects of patient care in the Diagnostic Imaging Department.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Licensure/Certification:
Current California Registered Nursing (RN) License required.
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Certification required.
Knowledge:
Strong nursing background with general knowledge of all areas of nursing practice required.
Knowledgeable in physical assessment; aseptic technique; medication administration including conscious sedation; setting up and maintaining a sterile field; care of the pediatric adult, elderly, acute ill or chronically ill patient; qualified and prepared to handle all unexpected emergencies that occur in the DI Department.
Knowledgeable in radiation safety and MRI safety required.
Skills:
Ability to work without direct nursing supervision and must possess excellent IV skills.
Excellent peripheral vascular access skills; good knowledge of central venous catheters, implanted ports and Peripherally Inserted Central Catheter (PICCs); contrast administration; anaphylaxis identification and treatment; patient assessment; Genitourinary (GU) catheterization for pediatric and adult patients; set-up and maintenance of sterile field; and accurate and complete documentation skills
Ability to work effectively with a variety of professional and ancillary personnel; independent worker who demonstrates mature judgment, initiative, and proficiency in nursing skills
Must have the physical and mental health sufficient to accomplish the duties of an RN
Must meet the pharmacology requirements of MMC
