Overview

RN Lactation Consultant effectively demonstrates the ability to guide, council and assists patients with questions.

Responsibilities

Performs initial and annual competencies per job class.

Makes daily rounds on all breast feeding parents, assisting as needed.

Attends in-services, all required training/education and unit/departmental meeting.

Instructs patients and staff in operation of breast pumps and other breast-feeding aides.

Assists patients of premature infants with breast-feeding needs.

Coordinates follow up phone calls to discharged patients to identify problems or concerns.

Teaches monthly pre-natal breast feeding classes.

Conducts consultations as requested.

Completes monthly OPS reports and submits to administration

Qualifications

Current Alabama RN licensure. Current International Board Certified Lactation Consultant required. Must be able to read, write legibly, speak, and comprehend English.
