Description:


Prepares, organizes and monitors the sterile field environment under the direction of a surgeon and a registered nurse for assigned surgical cases/deliveries. Provides assistance to the surgeon/physician and registered nurse as directed. Estimated pay range for this position is $37.24 - $45.62 / hour depending on experience.

  • Basic Life Support.

Additional Qualifications:

  • Graduate of a Surgical Technologist Program Preferred.
  • AST Certification preferred or extensive experience (2 years preferred) in one of the following specialties: Open Heart, Neurosurgery, or Hepatobiliary.
  • For Open Heart, Neurosurgery, and Hepatobiliary, validated training and competency endorsed by the Director of Surgery and the specialty Chief is required.
  • Work experience preferred.
  • Or is a lead surgical technologist for a service line - endorsed by the Directory of Surgery.

A caregiver who excels in this role will: Provide quality, individualized patient care in the perioperative, intraoperative and postoperative phases. Follow guidelines for perioperative practices as established by AORN. Maintain the sterile field and assist with draping the sterile field. Assemble, check and open sterile packs, sutures and more. Practice and assist others in maintaining aseptic technique and report and/or correct any breaks. Comply with required standards for patient positioning, skin preparation, counting and side-site verification. Remain with the sterile setup to assure maintenance of the sterile field. Collect specimens as directed by the surgeon and identify the origin of each specimen to the RN Circulator. Assist surgeons and assistants with retraction and suction as directed. Assure that all biohazard material is handled and disposed of properly using universal precautions. Keep accurate counts of all sutures, sharps, soft goods and instruments.
