Overview

Performs nuclear medicine imaging studies in accordance with physician orders and departmental guidelines.Prepares and transports patients as necessary.Prepares imaging equipment, room, and images, as need for interpretation.Verifies and completes studies in RIS and PACS.Maintains Quality Control on Equipment as Instructed.

Responsibilities

Prepare radioactive isotopes for administration to patients.Fill hypodermic syringe with specified amount of isotope and tagging componentObserve strict precautions in handling isotopes to safeguard against overexposure to radiation.Follow recommended guidelines of the nuclear regulatory commission (NRC) A.L.A.R.A. program.Operate gamma camera and related computers.Keep records of tests conducted, test results, use, and disposition of isotopes.Follows the hospital exposure control plans/bloodborne and airborne pathogens.Demonstrates respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors, and fellow employees to ensurea professional, responsible, and courteous environment.Promotes effective working relations and works effectively as part of a department/unit team inter- andintradepartmentally to facilitate the department's/unit's ability to meet its goals and objectives.Attends all required safety training programs and can describe his/her responsibilities related to general safety,department/service safety, and specific job-related hazards.Must be available for on call assignments, as needed.

Qualifications

Interprets data and answers questions from physicians, nurse and staff concerning test requirements, results, or specimen handling. Operates complex laboratory equipment requiring special skills. Performs preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of equipment per policy. Calibrates instruments as needed or when specified by manufacturer and/or regulations. Assesses the accuracy of all tests performed by adhering to the laboratory's Standard Operating Procedures; correlates clinical information and recognizes changes that are critical to patient care, identifies probable causes for irregular and atypical findings. Follows protocol for running and documenting Quality Control and CAP required proficiency testing according to policy and procedure. Collects, evaluates, and reports quality management data in order to monitor and improve laboratory performance. Prepares stains, reagents, solutions and mounts slides for microscopic analysis as needed. Observes and analyzes reactions.
