Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
  • Observes patient's mental, emotional and physical conditions and report any changes to the nursing staff.
  • Performs non-critical medical and therapeutic procedures based on medical instructions as directed by nursing staff.
  • May perform special procedures as required and directed (i.e., blood draws/EKGs).
  • Conducts regular patient rounds and meets with patient’s family members when required.
  • Collects test specimens and performs laboratory analysis as directed by nursing staff.
  • Answers patient calls and determines how best to help them.
  • Provides physical support for patients with daily activities and personal hygiene, including bathing, dressing, getting out of bed, using the toilet, walking, standing or exercising.

Qualifications:

Required:
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Completion of a Nurse Assistant Certification Program or equivalent
  • BLS issued by American Heart Association or Red Cross Certification

Preferred:

  • Minimum of six (6) months recent experience as a Nurse Assistant in an acute care setting preferred.
  • Completion of phlebotomy course or equivalent experience preferred.

Checks/restocks unit’s routine and emergency equipment/supplies. Collects/sends/takes labeled specimens to the lab. May discontinue peripheral intravenous lines as directed by RN. Obtains routine vital signs and temperature and documents in appropriate area or the EMR (electronic medical record). Assists the patient with coughing, deep breathing, use of incentive spirometer, suctions patient orally. Applies warm/cold therapies (heating pads, ice packs, and warm soaks) as directed by RN. Administers enemas and documents in appropriate area of the EMR as designated by the RN. Places patients on monitors/telemetry and maintains lead placement as directed by RN. Assist in preparing the body following death. Seeks out Registered Nurse for additional assignments. Documents patient care rendered. Answers the phone and communicates messages.
