Rutgers University Correctional Health Care is seeking a Full Time Staff Nurse for the Adult Diagnostic Treatment Center, located in Avenel, NJ. The UCHC Staff Nurse utilizes the nursing process to meet a variety of health care needs with ambulatory care as a primary focus; works with a variety of health care professionals and security officers in a correctional environment; frequently functions guided by nursing protocols; and functions as a team leader as assigned.

Among the key duties of this position are the following:
  • Provides direct and indirect nursing care to meet physiological, psychosocial and emotional needs of the inmatepatient including adults (18 to 64 years), and geriatrics (65+) and their family within the framework established by the correctional system.
  • Utilizes effective communication skills by demonstrating respect, concern and courtesy in all interpersonal relationships.
  • Attends appropriate in-services and continuing education offerings to obtain and maintain necessary skills.
  • Participates in offering education to inmates, security officers and other members of the health care team.
  • Participates in in-service meetings and educational programs either as attendee or as a teacher, as arranged and approved by supervisor.
