Summary:

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Exposure to blood borne pathogens, airborne pathogens, and other infectious diseases requiring the use of protective equipment; exposure to other hazards, such as radiation, toxic waste, chemical hazards based on the departments. Possible exposure to conditions, such as fumes, noxious odors, dusts, mists, gases, or poor ventilation.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENT

Standing, sitting, walking and working throughout the shift. Lifting, pulling, turning and pushing patients daily. Ability to use appropriate Safe-Patient Handling equipment. Visual acuity, auditory and verbal skills necessary. Stressful work periods and rotating shifts.

Our goal is to stabilize the current crisis, engage natural and community supports, and assist individuals in planning for further care as clinically indicated. We aim to provide competent psychiatric stabilization through various methods, including evaluation, assessment, observation, monitoring, and treatment of medical conditions; psychotropic medication treatment; family engagement; and therapy management. Additionally, we teach patients skills to avoid future crises and reduce rapid readmissions by arranging discharge and aftercare appointments through community providers and making direct aftercare referrals to providers that need to be involved in the individual’s care. UNC Hospitals Youth Behavioral Health is a 54 bed inpatient psychiatric facility located in Butner, NC. The hospital is composed of 4 units designed to care for child and adolescent patients with a variety of common mental health diagnoses, including those with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities and with Autism Spectrum Disorder. In a milieu-based, trauma-informed, therapeutic setting, patients are treated by a multidisciplinary team of healthcare professionals, including Psychiatrists, Psychologists, Therapy Services Social Workers, Nursing Services, Pharmacy, Pastoral Care and Nutrition Services. Safety is the key component of the care provided as well as introduction of positive coping skills, healthy living and positive leisure activities. This is a Per Diem/ at-will position requiring the ability to generally work a minimum of 12 hours every 2 weeks; Day & Night Rotating shifts, general hours are 7am-7:30pm & 7pm-7:30am, with weekend and holiday rotation. This position requires the ability to attend orientation and training at the UNC Medical Center in Chapel Hill.
