Job Description

Nurse Manager

About the Position: The Oklahoma County Crisis Intervention Center (OCCIC) is a fast-paced, acute crisis care facility located in OKC. It provides 24/7 psychiatric and substance abuse care for individuals in crisis. The treatment philosophy is trauma sensitive, co-occurring, person-centered and recovery-oriented in nature. We are currently looking for a Nurse Manager to join our team to provide leadership, supervision, and flexibility in floor coverages (including shift and weekend hours) to our facility staff.

Job Type/Salary:

Additional Compensation: In addition to our excellent benefits, we also offer extra compensation for working outside of normal business hours! Below is a list of shift differential pay rates that can help boost your hourly wage. Shift differential pay can be stacked—for example, working night shifts on the weekend could earn you an additional $8.00 per hour.

  • Evening/Nights – extra $3.00 hr.
  • Weekends – extra $5.00 hr.
  • Holidays – extra $3.00 hr.

Minimum Qualifications and Experience: 

Level I

  • Possession of a valid permanent Oklahoma license as a registered nurse as approved by the Oklahoma Board of Nursing, or Registered Nurse License recognized by the Enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact (eNLC) and three years of professional nursing experience, one year of which must have been in a supervisory capacity;
  • Or a bachelor’s degree in nursing and two years of professional nursing experience, one year of which must have been in a supervisory capacity;
  • Or a master’s degree and one year of professional nursing experience in a supervisory capacity.

Level II

  • Possession of a valid permanent Oklahoma license as a registered nurse as approved by the Oklahoma Board of Nursing and four years of professional nursing experience, two years of which must have been in a supervisory capacity;
  • Or a bachelor’s degree in nursing and three years of professional nursing experience, two year of which must have been in a supervisory capacity;
  • Or a master’s degree and two years of professional nursing experience in a supervisory capacity.

Level III

  • Possession of a valid permanent Oklahoma license as a registered nurse as approved by the Oklahoma Board of Nursing, or Registered Nurse License recognized by the Enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact (eNLC) and four years of professional nursing experience, two years of which must have been in a supervisory capacity PLUS one additional year of professional nursing experience in a managerial or consultative capacity or providing consultation and educational services in a specialized field or program;

  • Or a master’s degree and two years of professional nursing experience in a supervisory capacity and one additional year of professional nursing experience in a managerial or consultative capacity or providing consultation and educational services in a specialized field or program plus two additional years of professional nursing experience in an administrative capacity.

This includes providing nursing assessments, planning, interventions, evaluations, health related education, case management, and execution of the medical regime including administering medications and treatments prescribed by any person authorized to prescribe by state law. Typical Functions The functions performed in this job family will vary by level, unit and organization, but may include the following: Assesses health status of individuals, families, and communities; develops plans and implements appropriate nursing interventions. Evaluates and determines health resources necessary to meet individual, family and community health needs. Delivers professional nursing care in an assigned unit, clinic, home, or other setting. Educates individuals, families, communities, and members of the health care team about the principles of disease prevention and health promotion. Provides supervision to other professional or paraprofessional personnel; collaborates with other professionals in the management of health care. Delegates tasks as may safely be performed by others, consistent with educational preparation and that do not conflict with the provisions of the Oklahoma Nursing Practice Act. Assures quality health care through use of various measures such as record review, peer review, direct observation, and assessment of individual, family, and community for the desired outcome. Performs specialized nursing functions as educationally prepared. Level Descriptor Levels are distinguished based on the complexity of assigned duties, the level of expertise required for completion of work assignments, and the responsibility assigned for the supervision of others. This is the basic level of this job family where employees are assigned responsibility for performing basic level professional nursing care. Assignments are generally well defined and may include direct and indirect nursing care. This may include monitoring and assessing the health status of individuals, planning the nursing care of the individual, putting interventions in place, and evaluating the outcome. Provides health education. May include providing direction or guidance to non-licensed personnel. Refers unusual or complex situations to the supervisor. Education and Experience Education and Experience requirements at this level consist of possession of a valid Oklahoma license as a registered nurse as approved by the Oklahoma Board of Nursing; or Registered Nurse License recognized by the Enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact (eNLC). Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Competencies Knowledge, Skills and Abilities required to perform duties at this level include knowledge of the principles and practices of professional nursing, of health promotion, and of disease prevention. Ability is required to perform assessments and nursing functions as acquired in the basic nursing preparation program. Special Requirements Upon appointment, incumbents designated by the Oklahoma Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services shall complete certification in one of the following required Departmental sponsored training in case management: Certified Behavioral Health Case Manager – Adult; Certified Behavioral Health Case Manager – Child, Adolescent and Family; or Certified Behavioral Health Case Manager – Dual Certification. Upon a conditional offer of employment, Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services applicants must submit to a physical examination and shall meet the physical examination requirements of occasionally lifting/carrying 50 pounds and able to push and pull a maximum force of 25 pounds. Applicants with the Department of Corrections must be willing and able to work any assigned shift or day of the week, and additional shifts as required.
