Assists surgeon by passing sterile articles, retracting tissue, counting and handling of surgical specimens; remains alert to and safeguards against patient injury from electrical/mechanical hazards while guarding asepsis.

Required Education:

Minimum: High School Graduate. Graduation from a formal accredited surgical technician training program.

Required Experience:

Preferred: Two years surgical technician experience.

Required Certification/License/Registry:

Neuro CST’s specialize in spine and brain surgery working alongside the same surgeons and RN’s consistently to become highly skilled in the specialty. Dedicated neuro-techs will take call responsibilities outside of their usual shift to cover neurosurgical cases during evenings, nights and weekends. Techs rotate weeks between team members. Other off-shift requirements are not covered by neuro specialty techs, only neurosurgical cases will require coverage. Additional duties include stocking specialty supplies and updating neurosurgical preference cards.
