Checks/restocks unit’s routine and emergency equipment/supplies. Collects/sends/takes labeled specimens to the lab. May discontinue peripheral intravenous lines as directed by RN Obtains routine vital signs and temperature and documents in appropriate area or the EMR (electronic medical record). Assists the patient with coughing, deep breathing, use of incentive spirometer, suctions patient orally. Applies warm/cold therapies (heating pads, ice packs, and warm soaks) as directed by RN. Administers enemas and documents in the appropriate area of the EMR as designated by the RN. Places patients on monitors/telemetry and maintains lead placement as directed by RN. Assist in preparing the body following death. Seeks out Registered Nurse for additional assignments. Documents patient care rendered. Answers phone and communicates messages. Department 5A EAST Integrated Med and Psych Care The IMAP unit at Denver Health is a specialized 12-bed medical/surgical and psychiatric unit that provides high-quality, integrated care to adult patients with complex medical conditions and co-occurring mental health needs. This unit is uniquely designed for individuals whose behavioral health challenges, combined with acute or chronic medical diagnoses, make them difficult to place in traditional psychiatric or medical settings. Patients on the IMAP unit may present with a wide range of medical concerns, including post-surgical recovery, cardiac abnormalities, sepsis, wound care, or other acute conditions—while also experiencing psychiatric diagnoses such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, or severe depression. The unit's structure allows for close medical monitoring while simultaneously addressing behavioral health needs through a multidisciplinary team approach. With a nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:4 / 1:5 and a CNA ratio of 1:6, the unit is staffed to support safe, effective, and compassionate care. The team on 5A delivers respectful, patient-centered care to individuals with complex access and care needs, and works collaboratively with internal medicine, psychiatry, and social work to ensure holistic treatment. IMAP offers exceptional learning opportunities for nurses and certified nursing assistants seeking to grow their skills in both medical and psychiatric care. Staff gain experience in managing medically complex patients with behavioral needs, utilizing therapeutic communication, de-escalation strategies, and trauma-informed care. Job Summary Under close supervision, assists professional nursing and care providers in providing care to all patients with respect for their uniqueness. Collaborates with the RN and healthcare team. Assists with basic patient care and activities of daily living. Maintains unit specific documentation as required. Orders, maintains and utilizes supplies for the assigned unit. Essential Functions : Provides a safe environment for all patents. Assuring proper patient positions and patient care throughout the patient’s stay.
