About our unit

6NE MPCU is a generalized medical progressive care unit with broad variety of disease processes ranging of the general medical population specializing in cardiac, respiratory, renal (CAPD) GI, sepsis, and other generalized disease processes that requires more frequent and closer observation by the nursing staff.

All patients are monitored for cardiac arrhythmias’ continuous SpO2 saturations, BP, and respiratory. Nearly 25% of our patients require high-flow, Bipap, CPAP to help support their respiratory status. We can administer and monitor a multitude of vasopressors and other continuous drips requiring closer monitoring of VS. In addition, the nurses receive additional training do perform CPAD. All nurses must take and pass a critical care examination with a passing score of 85%. Staff must obtain their ACLS within 6 months of hire.

Scope of work

Under the direction of the nurse manager or other nursing leader, the assistant nurse manager has responsibility for the effective implementation of the philosophy, goals, policies, and procedures of the hospital and the nursing department and their effect on patient care in the department.

Qualifications

  • Effective June 1, 2025, a Bachelor’s degree in nursing (BSN) is Required.
  • Two years of recent, relevant inpatient clinical experience (progressive or acute care) Required.
  • Participation in leadership activities (Unit, hospital, or system Shared Governance meetings, Precepting, or Charge nurse role) Preferred.
  • MI RN license Required. 
  • AHA or ARC Basic Life Support (BLS) Required.
