Job Summary
The Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for the patient care and leads the patient care team to achieve goals established for both the individual patient and the clinical service. RN provides direct nursing care to patients in a subacute care level in the acute care setting. RN plays a vital role in assessing and monitoring patient health, administering medications, and supporting recovery for individuals along with the care team that includes physician, licensed practical nurse, patient care technician, advance nurse practitioner and physician assistants. This position requires clinical competence, compassion, strong documentation skills, and a commitment to upholding New Jersey State Board of Nursing regulations and facility policies. The RN will provide nursing care for a unique patient population from the Bureau of Prisons. Additional compensation of $5.00/hr is provided when providing care for these patients.

Minimum Education/Certifications
Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing and current licensure in New Jersey State as Registered Nurse.
Certifications required: BLS- by American Heart Association (AHA).
Minimum Work Experience
One or two years of healthcare experience preferred
Position Type/Expected Hours Of Work
Must be willing to work holidays, weekends and provide additional coverage as needed.
Working Conditions
Exposed to unpleasant odors, body waste, communicable diseases. Encounters stress, crisis, emergencies, trauma and death. On feet most of the day, lifts patients and moves heavy equipment. Interacts with family, visitor health team members and other hospital and referral agency personnel.

Essential Functions
- Provides safe and appropriate nursing care to patients utilizing the nursing process
- Performs a thorough and timely assessment of patient’s condition including physical, psychological, social and rehabilitative aspects
- Identifies problems/nursing needs including discharge needs
- Intervenes appropriately to address identified problems and needs. Plans care according to standards of care. Manages time efficiently/sets priorities appropriately
- Evaluates effectiveness of care and revises plan if necessary
- Provides education consistent with the patient/family learning abilities and preferences; evaluates outcomes
- Effectively Communicates with physician’s, co-workers, patients, families
- Reports pertinent observations regarding patients to physicians and other health care team members
- Shift report is given on time, accurately and concisely
- Documentation on the patient’s medical record is accurate, complete, and concise
- Patient Safety
- Maintains National Patient Safety Goals
- Verifies, coordinates and carries out physicians orders accurately
- Coordinates interdepartmental transfers smoothly and efficiently
- Coordinates interdepartmental activities (i.e., lab, radiology, etc.) to ensure timely efficient care
- Communicates and coordinates with Case Manager to ensure timely discharge, patient satisfaction and quality care along the continuum of care
- Practices Universal Standard Precautions
- Demonstrates knowledge of practices department safety procedures, including safe handling of equipment and hazardous substances
- Initiates incident reports appropriately
- Administers medications in an accurate and timely manner
- Follows the 5 “rights” when administering medications
- Uses 2 patient identifiers before administering medications
- Uses 2 patient identifiers before administering medications to new patients and facial recognition when administering medications to re
- Other duties as requested.
