Job Title: Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON)
Position Overview: The role requires strong clinical oversight, including conducting patient rounds, reviewing clinical documentation, and observing nursing practices to ensure compliance with facility policies, regulatory standards, and best-practice care protocols. The Nursing Supervisor provides ongoing coaching, addresses performance and disciplinary concerns, and conducts regular evaluations to identify strengths, promote professional development, and improve overall team performance.
Key Responsibilities:
Hiring new nursing staff and overseeing the onboarding process, including providing training or coordinating assignment to an appropriate trainer.
Create schedules to ensure that departments have adequate nursing coverage for every shift
Providing performance coaching to nursing staff and administering corrective action when necessary to promote professional development and uphold performance standards.
Monitor expenses to ensure that the facility operates within budgetary constraints
Host staff meetings to discuss patient status
Conduct employee evaluations that identify each nurse’s strengths and opportunities for improvement.
Making rounds to assess patient status and observe nurses
Audit patient records to ensure documentation is accurate, complete, and current.
Qualifications:
Must be a graduate of an accredited nursing program with a current, active Registered Nurse (RN) license by the State Board of Nursing
Excellent oral communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively and respectfully with staff, patients, and families.
Comprehensive knowledge of nursing best practices, regulatory requirements, and applicable federal, state, and local healthcare laws.
Strong written communication skills, including the ability to prepare reports and conduct formal evaluations.
Well-developed analytical skills for interpreting clinical information, operational data, and financial metrics.
Effective coaching abilities to support ongoing performance improvement among nursing staff.
Strong time-management and multitasking capabilities to manage diverse responsibilities in a fast-paced environment.
Advanced problem-solving skills to address challenges in patient care delivery and staffing coordination.
Proficiency in electronic health records systems as well as word processing, spreadsheet, and email applications.
