Responsibilities

The Charge Nurse acts as a member of the department Leadership Team, under the direction of the department Director & Manager. The Charge Nurse serves in a leadership role to aid in the management and training of staff. This position will also assist with the organization of day-to-day activities of the department.

 

  1. Assists in the direct operations of the department in collaboration with hospital leadership to assure compliance with all regulatory agencies and hospital requirements.
  2. Demonstrates knowledge, appropriate use, and ensures compliance of the Nursing Process for patients in the following the unit patient population served according to Scope of Service, Nursing Standards of Care, and Hospital Policies and Procedures.
  3. Demonstrates responsible and effective management of resources, including personnel, supplies and equipment.
  4. Assumes responsibility for clinical competency and professional development. Works with the Department Director to ensure that all competencies, licensure, and education are completed prior to the deadline.  Assists in training and developing nursing staff.
  5. Responsible for coordinating continuous quality improvement and quality assurance efforts, including audits to validate efforts.
  6. Responsible for leading and promoting the departmental goals.
  7. Resolves staff or patient concerns and utilizes chain of command procedures when indicated.
  8. Contributes in the development and strategic planning with the unit manager/director in accordance with hospital goals.
  9. Assures supervision, assistance, instruction, and evaluation of new and existing staff.
  10. Provides coaching in consultation and collaboration with nursing director and/or manager.
  11. Actively participates in the development and implementation of performance improvement.
  12. Ensure proper documentation, record-keeping, and capture of patient charges.

Qualifications

Job Requirements: 

  • Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Idaho.

  • BLS certification must be obtained within 14 days of hire or transfer into the role and prior to providing direct patient care.

  • Obtain ACLS within 6 months, PALS within 9 months, TNCC within one year 

Preferred Job Requirements:

  • Prefer 2 years Emergency/Critical Care or Medical Surgical Nursing
