Same Day Surgery LPN - GI Lab Endoscopy

POSITION SUMMARY 

To be fully engaged in providing Quality/No Harm, Customer Experience, and Stewardship by performing a variety of technical activities related to patient care, as well as support activities in the operative setting.  

PRIMARY ACCOUNTABILITES  

1. Perform all duties required of a pre-Surgical nurse in accordance with established procedures and completion of skills check list.  
2. Recognize clinical symptoms that need to be escalated to RN or Anesthesia  
3. Cooperate with the surgical team in the individualized plan of care for each patient. Utilize clinical knowledge related to health and medication management to effectively communicate to patients and families, especially their pre-operative instructions  
4. Effectively communicate with other members of the healthcare team to promote a collaborative environment of care.  
5. Document all changes in patient information, health history and medications in patient information software program.  
6. Provide service to patients and families with sensitivity and respect for their needs, expectations, age, cultural, and individual needs.  
7. Attend in-services and mandatory meetings. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS  

• Education: Graduate of Licensed Practical Nurse Program. 
• Work Experience: One (1) year practical nursing experience. 
• Licensure: Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) licensure in the State of Florida or endorsement. 
• Certification:  

1. American Heart Association Basic Life Support (AHA BLS) Healthcare Provider Completion Card prior to start date and maintained. 
2. Other certification(s) as required by unit specific assignment. 

• Skills/Knowledge/Abilities: 

1. Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English. 
2. Perform basic math. 
3. Adapt time and priorities to fulfill daily schedule and assigned tasks. 
4. Ability to respond appropriately to stressful or life-threatening situations. 
5. Detail-oriented with ability for continuous concentration on an activity. Ability to interact effectively with medical staff and patient care teams. 
6. To complete milestones and competencies with ability to receive constructive criticism and apply to future performance.  
7. Work independently while consulting chain of command as appropriate.  
8. Dependable and reliable. 

PREFFERED QUALIFICATIONS  

• Work Experience: Previous ambulatory surgery experience. 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS 

• Physically agile; may require walking, standing, running, bending, stooping, kneeling, climbing, or crouching frequently. 
• May occasionally include lifting or moving objects up to 50 pounds, with or without assistance.  
• May require moving in different positions to accomplish tasks in various environments including tight and confined spaces, including reaching out and above shoulders, or overhead. 
• May lift, turn, pull, push, or ambulate people and/or equipment with or without assistance up to 90% of the assigned shift. 
• May be exposed to inside and outside environments with varied temperatures, air quality, lighting, and/or low to loud noise.  
• May require working with biohazards such as blood/body fluids and airborne particles following OSHA and CDC guidelines. 
• Communicating with others to exchange information. 
• Visual acuity and hand-eye coordination to perform tasks. 
• Workspace may vary from open to confined.
• May require travel to various facilities within and beyond county perimeter; may require use of personal vehicle.
