Responsibilities:

  • Prepares room/equipment based on patient’s surgical needs.
  • Implements housecleaning tasks for sanitation.
  • Pulls appropriate supplies/equipment/instruments for procedure.
  • Participates in “Time Out”.
  • Practices team approach in preparation of scheduled cases in working with the circulator assigned to the case.
  • Provides physical comfort for patient to include decreased noise level.
  • Ensures all supplies are sterile.
  • Opens supplies and instruments using aseptic technique.
  • Responsible for receiving sterile supplies onto the sterile field.
  • Responsible for handling of specimens and other items on the sterile field.
  • Responsible for counting of instruments, sponges, sharps, etc.
  • Responsible for gowning and gloving of surgeons and assistants.
  • Draping utilizing aseptic technique.
  • ”Passing Off” of equipment to circulator.
  • Moves equipment and tables utilizing sterile technique.
  • Assists surgeons as directed.
  • Demonstrates surgical conscience by correcting breaks in sterile technique/policing all movement around the sterile field.
  • Keep circulator informed of items implanted: size, type and other pertinent information.
  • Communicates pertinent information to appropriate personnel such as changes in procedure .necessitating acquisition of extra supplies/instruments in a timely manner.
  • Identifies/marks/communicates equipment in need of repair.
  • Takes down the operative field.
  • Cleans of instruments.
  • Removes/disposes soiled gowns/gloves.
  • Communicates with SPD regarding restock of specialty sets.
  • Facilitates the organization and management to achieve optimal patient appropriate resource utilization.

Requirements:

  • Current BLS Certification
  • Current ACLS Certification preferred.
  • 1-3 years experience required.
  • Preferred: Surgical Technologist Certification
