40Job Description Summary:
The Medical Assistant- Casting Specialist, under the supervision of the Clinical Lead and Practice Leader, is responsible for assisting in the delivery of healthcare and patient care management. This role assists the providers within the scope of practice to provide quality patient care. This includes gathering patient information, assessing patient requests, obtaining and monitoring patient vitals, assisting with procedures, and re-processing instruments. Additionally, this role is responsible for the application, adjustment, and removal of orthopedic immobilization devices, including plaster and synthetic casts, splints, and braces, under the supervision of licensed medical providers.Job Requirements, Prerequisites and Essential Functions:
Pay Range: $29.49 - $34.33 - $40.05
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
Direct patient care:
- Rooming patients, including obtaining vital signs, obtaining reason for visit, and documenting symptoms their frequency, and severity.
- Documents all required information in electronic medical records.
- Provide injections and immunizations as ordered by the provider.
- Provide assistance during medical procedures.
- Obtain all patient information required to meet regulatory obligations.
- Track the receipt of all results for all ordered tests.
- Ability to perform POCT as well as all quality controls.
Communication and correspondence including lab results, prescription management, and referrals:
- Use electronic medical records and work off “task lists” to complete patient visits or requests.
- Provides patients with accurate information when answering questions and concerns.
- Maintains patient records and protects patient confidentiality.
- Complete referrals accurately and appropriately.
Maintain patient areas and supplies:
- Disinfect exam rooms between patients and all patient areas at the end of the day.
- Assist with clinic upkeep, including daily cleaning and supply ordering/inventory.
- Perform reprocessing of scopes and or probes after completion of competency in specialty clinics.
- Perform all steps related to sterilization of instruments and use of autoclave.
Casting Support:
- Apply, adjust, and remove orthopedic immobilization devices, including plaster and synthetic casts, splints, and braces, under the supervision of licensed medical providers.
- Prepare patients for casting procedures by covering affected areas with appropriate protective materials such as stockinette and padding.
- Educate patients and their families on proper cast care, hygiene practices, and activity limitations to ensure optimal healing.
- Assist in fitting and instructing patients on the use of orthopedic support devices, including crutches, walkers, and braces.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of casting materials and equipment, ensuring adherence to infection control protocols.
- Document all procedures and patient interactions accurately in the electronic health record system.
- Collaborate with the healthcare team to monitor patient progress and report any concerns related to orthopedic care.
General:
- Remains calm and effective in an emergency or in high-pressure situations.
- Collaborate with team members on various ongoing projects.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
- Comply with all OSHA and safety regulations.
- This position may require working in multiple locations.
Qualifications:
Education:
- High school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) certificate required.
- Completion of a casting course, or workshop.
License & Certifications:
- A Medical Assistant certificate is required.
- BLS Certification (American Heart Association) required.
Experience:
- At least one year of related medical assisting experience in a physician’s office or other clinical setting, or equivalent combination of training and experience.
- Experience with casting is necessary.

The posted pay range complies with applicable law and reflects what we reasonably expect to pay for this role. Individual pay is set by skills, experience, qualifications, and internal/market equity, consistent with MarinHealth’s compensation philosophy. Positions covered by collective bargaining agreements are governed by those agreements.
