Job Summary and Qualifications

The Registered Nurse (RN) demonstrates knowledge and skills by providing safe and effective care of patients. The RN collaborates with all other healthcare disciplines to achieve successful execution of the patient’s plan-of-care in accordance with the Nurse Practice Act. Nursing job duties are to meet the Nurse Practice Act, Title 22, The Joint Commission and the Plan for Provision of Nursing Care and the Plan for Provision of Care to Patients, and other regulatory requirements. The RN will monitor and assess the patient’s physical condition, emotional and social needs, continually refining the plan-of-care to ensure achievement of the desired goals of the patient and facility outcomes. Participates in providing patient specific care standards as directed, and follows service excellence standards to ensure high levels of patient satisfaction. 

Essential Job Responsibilities:

· Complies with hospital/departmental policies and procedures, i.e., attendance, mandatory education, safety, infection control, etc. 

· Respects patient’s rights by maintaining patient privacy, dignity, and confidentiality. 

· Demonstrates ICARE standards at all times. 

· Can recognize and respond appropriately in an emergency situation. 

· Attends unit specific education sessions. 

· Attends 80% of all mandatory meetings and in-services. 

· Reading and reviewing emails and other department communication. 

· Prepares for each procedure and/or surgery by ensuring there is adequate stock, and appropriate equipment available in areas as assigned. 

· Performs physical patient assessments/reassessments on a regular basis in accordance department standards. Pertinent data is collected using appropriate assessment techniques. 

· Incorporates available technology to aid in physical assessment. 

· Is able to discern critical findings and timely communicates changes in the patient’s condition to the appropriate patient care providers. 

· The data collection process is systematic and ongoing. 

· In collaboration with interdisciplinary members of the team, formulates a plan of care including expected outcomes for each patient based on diagnoses derived from patient assessments 

· Demonstrates the ability to organize and set priorities.

· The plan is individualized to the patient’s condition, age or needs 

· The plan reflects current nursing practice.

· The plan is documented.

· The plan provides for continuity of care. 

· Coordinates and participates in providing direct patient care.

· Performs skills proficiently and in accordance with the standards of nursing care.

· Utilizes all equipment in the unit appropriate to patient with maximum efficiency and effectiveness based on knowledge and education.

· Interventions are implemented in a safe and appropriate manner and documented.

· Performs nursing care in an organized and systematic manner.

· Can organize work and utilize time efficiently based on knowledge of nursing theories and procedures. 

· Verifies accuracy of medication administration by following all safety measures. 

· Ensures medications are kept secure and stored appropriately. 

· Is able to articulate the organization mission, vision and values and how it relates to the SDHRN role. 

· Advocates on behalf of our patients and their family. 

· Continuously pursues patient safety.

· Teaches, supervises, and serves as a resource person and delegates in accordance with the competency level of all staff members.

· Serves as a preceptor and completes the appropriate documentation of training and competency.

· Performs unit specific technical skills.

· Can manage multiple priorities. 

· Has advanced time-management skills.

· Adapts to a rapidly changing work environment. 

· Demonstrates the ability to work with people from diverse socio-economic backgrounds. 

· Assists with post procedure workload including: cleaning room between procedures, putting away all unused supplies & setting up for the next procedure.

· Actively participates in OR turnover. 

Position Requirements 

Licensure/Certification/Registration:

· Current licensure in the State of Colorado as a Registered Nurse, or current active multistate Registered Nurse license.

· Current BLS certification through American Heart Association or American Red Cross.

· CNOR preferred.

Education and Training:

· Graduate of an accredited school of Nursing. 

· BSN is preferred.

Experience:

· Able to articulate and demonstrate appropriate nursing theory and practice in the perioperative setting. Experience requirements are specific to positions but one-year experience in the perioperative setting is preferred.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

· Demonstrates good organizational skills. Provides safe and appropriate patient care within the Standards of Nursing Practice at Rose Medical Center. 

· Displays appropriate judgement and problem-solving skills. Communicates positively and professionally with all internal and external customers. 

· Demonstrates competency in perioperative nursing. Must be able to demonstrate understanding of national patient safety initiatives by strict compliance to all safety protocols and procedures as required by both HCA and Rose Medical Center.
