Under general supervision, the Medical Assistant is responsible for providing patient care services, determining medical conditions, and preparing patients for examination and treatment under the direction of the Provider.
 

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Prepare patients for examination, records vital signs and history, and provides treatment as applicable
  • Prepares exam/treatment rooms; select, setup, sterilize, and maintain medical supplies and equipment for procedures
  • Prepare and administer injections, change dressings, and facilitate wound management under providers orders
  • Collect blood, tissue, and other laboratory specimens through routine in-house testing procedures, and analyze and prepare for testing, log results, and perform lab call-backs
  • Document basic patient care and procedures, utilizing appropriate forms and electronic medical records
  • Schedule patients for tests, initial, and follow-up appointments if applicable in care setting
  • Instructs patients and family regarding treatment and medication instructions
  • Collaborate, take direction, and initiate actions that will allow the assumption of cross-functional team actions to ensure seamless patient care
  • Phlebotomy
  • Perform opening/closing clinic duties and patient call backs
  • Perform other duties as assigned 

Requirements and Qualifications:

  • Education: High school graduate or equivalent is required.
  • Certificate/License:Current Certification as a Medical Assistant through one of the following programs is preferred (RMA, AAMA, NCCT, CMAC, AMCA).  Current BLS certification is required.
  • Experience:A minimum of one (1) year of relevant experience is preferred

Primary Responsibilities Addresses the total patient, inclusive of medical, psychosocial, behavioral, cultural, and spiritual needs Involves the individual patient and caregiver, as appropriate, in decision making Facilitates communication and coordination among members of the care team Provides patient care to include patient assessment prior to physician's/nurse practitioner's examination, serves as patient advocate/liaison by answering questions related to care and treatment, as appropriate, provides patient education and self-management support, implements physician orders (injections, prescription refills, diagnostic tests, referrals, etc.) and assists providers with procedures Escorts patient to exam room Participates in team "huddles" and ensures electronic medical record (EMR) is prepared for the clinic visit Triages phone calls to the appropriate department and enters the call into the EMR as a Telephone Encounter.
