Supports and participates in quality improvement activities.

Qualifications

High School Diploma/GED; completion of a Surgical Technician Program and/or equivalent combination of education and experience
Certification as required by state and/or center
Previous experience in an ambulatory surgical center is strongly preferred
Must possess a strong knowledge of surgical procedures and management of the surgical patient
Understanding of aseptic techniques and their implementation
Ability to quickly adapt to changing condition of the patient when needed
Must excel in teamwork and possess strong communication skills to effectively collaborate with staff, engage with patients, and coordinate with physicians

Duties Include: Ensures sterility of all supplies and instruments during set up of surgical procedures. Assists circulating nurse and surgical team in maintaining sterile environment. Assists circulating nurse in gathering necessary surgical supplies and equipment. Is responsible for doing sponge, needle, and instrument count pre-operatively and intra-operative with the circulating nurse. Gowns and gloves surgeons and assistants. Assists in keeping physician preference cards accurate/updated. Retains all specimens to be sent to pathology, confirming source/name of specimen with surgeon. Transports all surgical equipment to appropriate cleaning areas. Assists in sterile supply with cleaning and reprocessing of instrument sets. Interacts appropriately and effectively with all patients/others regardless of age or ethnic background. Uses Standard Universal Precautions, appropriate hand hygiene, personal protective equipment, and safe practices to ensure personal safety and a safe environment. Summary Position Highlights: Under the direction of a Registered Nurse, the Surgical Technologist I acts as a scrub person who handles instruments, supplies and equipment necessary during the surgical procedure. The Surgical Technologist I will anticipate the needs of the surgeon and surgical team and has the necessary knowledge and ability to ensure quality patient care. Responsible for assisting with support services in the delivery of care to operative patients, including transportation, independent inventory management, environmental cleanliness and direct assistance to patients, visitors and staff. The Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications: 6 month to 1 year experience as a Surgical Technologist in any Operating room environment CST certification is required; CST Certification through either National Center for Competency testing (NCCT) or National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) Scrub experience Experience in Ortho, Neuro, and general surgery Responsibilities Prepare and maintain sterile field Support the surgical team through the surgical procedure Assist the Registered Nurse, Anesthesia and Surgical team in developing a plan of care for each surgical procedure Credentials And Qualifications High School Diploma/GED required. Graduate from an approved Surgical Technologist program required. CST Certification must be through either National Center for Competency testing (NCCT) or National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) CST certification can be obtained within 12 months of employment, however, must be maintained throughout employment. 6 months to 1 year relevant clinical experience as a Surgical Technologist in an OR environment preferred.
