Registered Nurse (RN) Supervisor – Nurse Triage

 

Position Summary

The RN Supervisor provides clinical and operational leadership for the overnight triage team, ensuring safe, high-quality patient care. This role combines 50% hands-on triage work with 50% supervisory and administrative duties. The ideal candidate has strong triage, Med-Surg, and Primary Care experience, proven leadership skills, and proficiency with Epic EMR.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise, mentor, and support overnight triage nurses to ensure clinical accuracy and efficiency.
  • Monitor call volumes, workloads, and quality metrics for timely patient care.
  • Conduct case reviews, chart audits, and performance feedback.
  • Serve as escalation point for complex or urgent triage cases.
  • Perform telephone triage using approved protocols and document accurately in Epic EMR.
  • Coordinate shift handoffs and collaborate with leadership on staffing and workflow improvements.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Active RN license (multi-state compact required).
  • 5+ years of clinical nursing experience (triage, Med-Surg, or Primary Care).
  • 2–3 years of supervisory or leadership experience.
  • Proficient in Epic EMR and remote communication tools.
  • Strong clinical judgment, organization, and communication skills.

Preferred:

  • BSN degree.
  • Experience in remote triage or nurse advice line.
  • Familiarity with quality metrics and process improvement.

Schedule & Work Environment

  • Rotating shifts
  • Hybrid (25% onsite / 75% remote) — requires reliable internet and a secure, HIPAA-compliant workspace.

Responsibilities

Manages patient assignments and flow within clinic. Provides oversight of patient care to support patient and staff needs. Serves as a lead, clinical resource, role model, and extension of management to uphold institutional priorities, policies and practices.

Assigns staff to patients per current clinic workload. Considers acuity, staff experience and competency, learning needs and patient acuity/complexity when considering assignments.

Participates in performance management of staff members to include coaching, preparation of performance evaluations, and the performance management process. Initiates disciplinary action as appropriate.

Addresses conflicts as they may arise. Assists/mediates to maintain smooth operations of the clinic.

Performs service recovery to promote patient and employee retention.

Facilitate orientation and training for employees.

Serves as liaison with other persons/departments/clinics concerning services offered by the office.

Performs other duties as required or assigned.

Qualifications

  • Graduate from an accredited Nursing Program required.
  • BSN required.
  • 2 years of related supervisory/management experience.
  • Must obtain and maintain clinical competencies as appropriate.
  • Excellent written, verbal and computer skills required.
  • Demonstrated abilities with problem solving, leadership, communication, fiscal responsibility and teamwork.
  • Ability to work effectively in groups of employees and with patients and patient families is essential.

Required Licensure/Certifications

  • Licensed Registered Nurse with New Hampshire eligibility.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) or higher per unit specific requirements.
