Supports the Grievance policy and associated processes. Assists in creating a positive image for Summa by assisting to enhance the patient and families’ hospital experience by identifying obstacles to improve the delivery of quality care services. Analyzes and interprets patient data to assess quality of care in relation to investigation of and triage/resolution of patient complaints. Collaborates with the Safety Program and assists, as needed, with the associated safety reporting platform

Essential Functions
- Records, tracks, and reports formalized complaints / compliments
- Responsible for the triage / resolution of patient complaints
- Logs patient issues appropriately and successfully resolves issues per our compliment/complaint/grievance process.
- Collaborates with the Safety Officer and assists, as needed, with data abstraction and monitoring in the safety reporting platform.
- Performs quality monitoring and observations and reports results.
- Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing (BSN)
- Applicants with an Associate’s degree will be considered but are required to obtain BSN within three (3) years of employment
- Graduate of a program of professional nursing that is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) or Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN)
- Current license to practice registered nursing in the State of Ohio
- Three (3) years recent professional nursing experience
- Prior experience in performance improvement activities
- Demonstrates a broad understanding of hospital functions, policies and procedures
- Ability to interact with, and is empathetic to people when dealing with sensitive and/or controversial issues while maintaining confidentiality as a high priority
- Demonstrates excellent written, interpersonal and oral communication skills
- Knowledgeable and experienced in computerized Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, Access, Outlook, etc.
- Ability to effectively interact with populations of patients/customers with an understanding of their needs for self-respect and dignity
- Ability to analyze and interpret patient data to assess quality of care against accepted standards.
- Possesses excellent analytical and problem-solving skills and the ability to gather and present information in an organized manner.
- Ability to organize, gather and present statistical data.
- Maintains a commitment to quality and service in all aspects of his/her work and strives for continuous organizational improvement
- Communicates and exemplifies ongoing commitment to continuous professional growth, development and excellence
- Ability to use independent judgment and access medical record documentation objectively and professionally

- Ability to develop and maintain record keeping systems and procedures
- Possesses thorough understanding of data, database and use of data
- Possesses knowledge and skills in pertinent database applications
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of patient information in all audit activities and performance improvement activities as applicable
- Sedentary: Exerts up to ten pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently
