South Pointe Hospital’s 7th Floor Med/Surg and Observation Unit focuses on healing and surgery while providing comprehensive care and services to adults with a wide variety of diagnoses, such as chest pain, stomach pain, or generalized weakness. With such variety, no two days are the same, but you will be surrounded every day by a team of long-standing caregivers who welcome you with open arms.

As an RN on this team, you will assist fellow caregivers with providing exceptional care to patients from initial introduction to discharge. In this role, you will interact directly with patients, families and visitors, offering the opportunity to enhance their experience and supply healthcare education as needed. Additionally, the Cleveland Clinic system provides nurses with many professional development resources, including furthering education and online/in-person courses to enhance your skills.

A caregiver in this position works day/night rotation from 7:00 a.m. – 7:30 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. – 7:30 a.m. with every other weekend and holiday rotation requirements.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

Provide direct nursing care.

Implement, monitor, evaluate, update and revise patient care plans.

Monitor, record, document and communicate patients’ conditions.

Administer prescribed medications and treatments.

Note and carry out physician and nursing orders.

Assess and coordinate patients’ discharge needs.

Educate patients and their families.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

Graduate from an accredited school of professional nursing (ADN or BSN program)

Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN)

Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) OR American Red Cross

One-year of current acute care RN experience. Will consider military RN experience

Weekday on call rotation is 5:00pm - 7:00am. A caregiver who excels in this role will: Provide direction and support to the clinical field staff. Supervises starts of care, resumptions of care and routine visits. Conduct assessment of patient's needs, and initiates nursing care plans. Facilitate the planning, implementation, development, and evaluation of nursing programs, initiatives, and objectives for the geographic area. Assist with the development and implementation of policies and procedures to ensure efficient and effective delivery of health services. Serve as a liaison between the nursing leadership, staff, and other areas within the organization. Identify and resolve issues affecting the delivery of patient care services. Oversee nursing personnel and patient care providers to ensure quality of care. Anticipate and resolve patient care issues. Ensure continuity of patient care by actively participating in and facilitating communication and collaboration among and between department staff and other departments re: operational issues. Review major operational patient care issues with the nursing leadership. Provide ongoing clinical evaluation of nurses and other direct and indirect patient care providers in assigned area. Counsel employees on performance issues, administers initial corrective actions, collaborates in monitoring attendance issues. Alert nursing leadership of significant clinical or other performance issues. Participate in interviewing, selecting, and appraising the performance of employees. Monitor the adherence to EEO/AAP goals and guidelines. Administers Nursing Institute, departmental and CC policies and procedures. Monitor daily clinical operations (patient flow, staffing, supplies, etc.). May prepare schedule of work assignment assuring adequate coverage on all shifts. Participate in and supports quality improvement projects, outcomes studies and research initiatives; participates in department and committees as assigned. Assist in orienting new personnel, continuing education, and in-service educational programs. Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include: Graduated from an accredited school of professional nursing Bachelor's degree in Nursing 2 years of recent clinical nurse experience Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Ohio Basic Life Support (BLS) through American Heart Association or the American Red Cross Valid Ohio Driver’s license upon hire; per policy 8-175 thereafter Must have reliable transportation and proof of automobile insurance coverage with 100,000/$300,000 coverage upon hire; per policy 8-175 thereafter Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include: 2 years in specialty (home health, hospice) experience Physical Requirements: Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patient, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination. Requires standing and walking for extended periods of time. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range. Requires working under stressful conditions and irregular hours. Exposure to communicable diseases and/or body fluids. Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.
