Surgical Technologist First Assist

Our Surgical Service teams are a committed, caring group of colleagues. We have a passion for creating positive patient interactions. As a Surgical Tech First Assist you will work directly with the surgeon in the operating room. You may scrub and assist the physician during procedures. If you are dedicated to caring for the well-being of others, this could be your next opportunity.

Your responsibilities and tasks may include:

· You will assist before during and after surgical procedures - providing retraction, manipulation of tissues, homeostasis, and other functions to ensure good visualization of the surgical field and optimal results for the patient.

· You may perform ligation and approximation of tissues, clamp and electrocautery application.

· You may assist in the preparation of patients, positioning and the application of casts, immobilizers, or tourniquets.

· You may apply surgical dressings and drainage and you might even close wounds for the surgeon.

· You may assist the RN in technical functions related to patient care in the OR.

Qualifications

· Graduate of an approved Surgical First Assistant program OR Medical School Graduate OR an allied health professional with 2250 hours of surgical rotation.

· Current certification as a Surgical Assistant having completed 350 cases and 2 years of experience in the last 4 years

· BLS approved by American Heart Association

· Must be able to lift 100 pounds and routinely carry 50 pounds

Job Summary and Qualifications What You Will Do in This Role: The role of the OR Tech II is to assist the OR team in the care of patients, equipment and supplies. The OR Tech II in 701 Surgery provides care for birth to pediatric, pediatric/child patients between 1 to 11 years of age; adolescent patients between 12 to 17 years of age; adult patients between 18 to 64 years; and geriatric patients 65 years and older. The surgical technologist in the first scrub role handles the instruments, supplies and equipment necessary during the surgical procedure. The OR Tech II understands the procedure being performed and anticipates the needs of the surgeon. The OR Tech II has the necessary knowledge and ability to ensure quality patient care during the operative procedure and is constantly on vigil for maintenance of the sterile field. When the OR Tech II is in the second scrub role they assist the surgeon and/or surgical assistant during the operative procedure by carrying out tasks including sponging, suctioning, cutting suture, holding retractors and manipulating the endoscopic camera. This role is distinct from that of the first scrub and surgical first assistant. What Qualifications You Will Need: Graduate of an accredited school of Certified Operating Room Technicians (CORT) Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) from National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) preferred. Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS) from American Heart Association or American Red Cross required upon hire In addition to meeting the requirements of an OR Tech II position, must also be competent to perform as first scrub in the following specialty areas: O rthopedics, Trauma, Neuro, Davinci’s and Vascular.
