EDUCATION
Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing

EXPERIENCE
None required for beginning nurse/new graduates. Requirements for specialty areas are defined as 1-2 years of experience in specialty area or related clinical experience.

LICENSURE/REGISTRATION/CERTIFICATION
Current licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of North Carolina; BLS certification, ACLS certification within one year.
Additional certifications such as PALS, TNCC, and ENPC encouraged but not required.

OTHER SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
Good interpersonal, communication, and observation skills are essential. Communicates clearly and concisely verbally and in writing. Exposure to and basic skills in use of clinical computer system. Strong focus on customer service.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
Exposure to bloodborne pathogens and other infectious diseases requires the use of protective equipment. Exposed to other hazards such as radiation, toxic waste, and chemical hazards based on the department.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Requires a range of physical activity from sedentary work to heavy work. This includes sitting, standing, walking and lifting patients and objects throughout the shift.

The 2nd Floor Post-Surgical Unit is a 40-bed adult inpatient unit that primarily serves patients recovering from orthopedic procedures, general surgeries, and urologic interventions. With an average of 5–10 admissions per day, the unit stays active while maintaining a strong focus on quality post-operative care. Nurse-to-patient ratios are typically 1:4–5 on days and 1:5–6 on nights. New graduate nurses complete a 12–13 week Vizient residency program, while experienced RNs receive 3–5 weeks of orientation tailored to their background. Nurse scheduling currently includes two weekends per 6-week schedule, though every-other-weekend coverage may be required depending on staffing needs. Nurses and Nursing Assistants are expected to work one-half of the hospital holidays annually, with NA shifts typically including every other weekend.
