GENERAL DEFINITION OF WORK

Under the supervision of the Coordinator I - School Health and Wellness, in collaboration with the Principal, the School Nurse's major duties include but are not limited to: administering all medications, including injections, to students; monitoring blood sugar levels; maintaining the school's medicine log; and performing other duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Provide first aid service to students and faculty
  • Attempt to determine extent of injuries and takes appropriate action, whether it be on-the-spot first aid or referral to another health agency
  • Provide counseling and referral services for students with special needs
  • Provide instruction in areas of personal hygiene and disease prevention
  • Requisition supplies and equipment as needed
  • Assume responsibility for inventory and safe storage of all departmental supplies
  • Maintain confidential records on services provided for students and staff
  • Perform housekeeping duties in the department to insure high standards of sanitation
  • Perform other duties as assigned
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • Thorough knowledge of and ability to perform catheterizations, tube feedings, respiratory (asthma) treatments, and related duties
  • Strong interpersonal skills required
  • General knowledge of computers required
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • A minimum of a current LPN License required; RN preferred
  • Documented successful experience in performing the above procedures required
  • Successful experience working with school-aged children

The RN House Supervisor is an experienced nurse who collaborates with directors and administration to provide 24/7 oversight of hospital operations to ensure adherence to health system policies and regulatory standards.
