POSITION SUMMARY

 

The overall purpose of the Assistant Director of Nursing is to serve as Director of Nursing in the absence of the Director and to help the Director in the performance of assigned functions and responsibilities.

 

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES

· Participates in admission and discharge planning for residents.

· Assists with the morning routine, clinical morning meeting and resident at risk meeting.

· Assists with nursing service quality assessment and assurance functions and activities; may coordinate nursing team meetings; may participate in assessment and evaluations of nursing services and nursing staff

· Assists in assuring the provision of treatments, medications and nursing services according to care plans and physicians instructions; maintains contact with physicians as necessary according to resident needs, facility policies and governmental regulations.

· Oversees nursing assistants and completion of daily task and documentation.

· Participates in the facility Antibiotic Stewardship and infection control

· Understands and promotes the Federal, State and company position on Abuse and Neglect prevention.

· Active in the incident and accident system.

· Participates in and contributes to the performance of duties / tasks assigned to the director of nursing; may act for the Director of Nursing as assigned in directing the activities of the nursing staff.

· Follows established safety policies and procedures

 

STAFF DEVELOPMENT

· Ensures that appropriate TB screening is completed for employees and residents.

· Assist with ensuring personnel are adequately educated to care for acute events, long-lasting illness of the frail elderly, cognitive impairment, end of life, and hospice care. In some settings, post-acute services/programs may dictate additional specialized education and competencies.

· Conducts staff meetings on all shifts at least monthly as per the Director of Nurses.

QUALIFICATIONS

· A current, valid state registration / certification as a registered or licensed nurse is required

· Experience in nursing in a long-term care setting is preferred

· Effective communication and interpersonal skills are needed

· Functional literacy in English is required
