Job Responsibilities

  • Providing nursing care in post-acute care facilities
  • Checking vital signs such as blood pressure and pulse and providing regular reports to the broader nursing team
  • Observing the conditions of residents on an ongoing basis, alerting supervising staff to any concerns or emergencies
  • Helping residents perform activities of daily living (ADLs), such as toileting, grooming, personal hygiene, and feeding
  • Changing linens, sanitizing surfaces, and performing other tasks to provide a clean and sanitary environment for residents
  • Serving as an important go-between for residents and healthcare staff
  • Staying engaged with residents and offering daily companionship and comfort
  • Communicating with family members and other visitors and helping to address their concerns
  • Moving residents safely and comfortably to and from exam tables, beds, and wheelchairs, repositioning them as needed

Qualifications and Skills

  • Current Virginia Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification
  • Basic understanding of medical terminology and nursing care procedures
  • Effective organizational skills and communication skills
  • Appropriate bedside manner

Position Hours: 6:30 p.m.- 7:00 a.m. Working at Least Every Other Weekend Shift Differentials and Weekend/Holiday Supplements Available Psychiatric Care Technicians Assist Nurses By: * Providing quality care as part of an interdisciplinary team * Maintaining accountability in a safe, secure, and therapeutic environment * Creating healthy interpersonal interactions on adult acute admissions unit, geriatric unit, and Extended Rehabilitation Service unit * Observing and reporting feedback regarding interventions, treatments, behaviors, physical condition, emotional well-being, and other situations documenting and communicating using specialized training for promoting mental wellness recovery KSAs and or Competencies required to successfully perform the work: * Ability to distinguish between safe and unsafe patient behavior by observing, interacting, and listening * Ability to read, write and speak in the English language * Ability to observe, report and document changes in patients’ mental, physical and behavioral status * Ability to follow written and oral instructions * Ability to maintain all required orientation and annual competencies * Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with supervisors, co- workers and patients from varied backgrounds using effective interpersonal skills * Ability to recognize the need and ask for help or assistance in providing care and treatment * Ability to give and receive effective feedback and perform as a member of a team * Ability to administer CPR and perform Therapeutic Options approved physical interventions * Ability to work overtime hours, rotating weekends, and holidays * Ability to use email and electronic health records * Will obtain certification as a C.N.A by the Virginia Board of Nursing within probationary period. * Knowledge of basic treatment measures to promote mental health appropriate to the adult, developmentally disabled or impaired, and/or geriatric populations. • Ability to work overtime in a staffing emergency. • Ability to work in a secure and locked environment with individuals who are experiencing acute symptoms of mental illness and/or additional forensic/legal involvement. • Knowledge of personal care needs and activities of daily living. • Ability to carry out responsibilities of the position. • Ability to read, write and communicate effectively with others. • Ability to turn, bend and lift non-ambulatory patients without restrictions. • Ability to provide direct patient care under supervision of licensed nursing staff. • Ability to demonstrate competencies as defined on the C.N.A. competency assessment. Minimum Qualifications • Obtain a CNA Certification within probationary period and maintain CNA (Certified Nursing Aide) certification in good standing with the VA State Board of Nursing. Additional Considerations • Experience in a psychiatric, healthcare facility, acute care, long-term care or correction setting is preferred.
