RN Responsibilities:

Maintains appropriate nursing service objectives, goals, and standards of nursing practices consistent with licensure requirements and the Nurse Practice Act.
Evaluates staffing pattern needed to meet the needs of the residents in conjunction with the Director of Nursing.
Administers medication/treatments as prescribed.
Receive, transcribe, and implement physician’s orders.
Implements and evaluates care plans.
Identifies/secures equipment supplies
Directs/oversees subordinates.
Participates in duty assignments.
Organizes/coordinates subordinates, job tasks, and time allotments.
Oversees/monitors function and activities of subordinate staff.
Evaluate staff performance and institutes appropriate action discipline/training.
Monitor’s infection control compliance.
Investigates/documents accidents/incidents.
Other duties as assigned.

RN Requirements:

Current, valid licensure as a RN required
Experience in long-term healthcare preferred
Management/Supervisory experience required
Strong communication and interpersonal skills needed
Strong written and verbal skills required

Narcotic count (sign on shift must be completed at this time’s) all narcotic count sheets verified Room rounds with off going nurse ( make sure CNA’s are also doing rounds ) Review 24hr report for lab follow up , diagnostic follow ups and any pending orders Medication passes per time schedule, G-tubes, PPIs, Coumadin, PRN medications, Nebulizer treatments, and skin treatments (if any). Complete monthly summary assigned for shift Complete skin assessment assigned for shift Ensure all CNA’s documentation on ADLs and meal intake is completed before end of shift. Ensure all shower sheets are turned in to you and reviewed before end of shift, turn in to Unit manager or DON (under her office door). Complete all MDS charting, Skilled charting, changes in condition and/or new orders or treatments received for specific resident in their charts. Please document schedule or cancelled doctors’ appointments in residents’ chart. (inform transportation of changes) For OOP residents please fill out appropriate form, and head to toe assessment completed. Complete incident report if any occur during shift (write incident on 24 hour report, and submit paperwork to unit manager or slide under DON’s door). Complete lab inquiries and noted on lab log for any new orders or any labs received (log them in).

Oversees appointment bookings and ensures preferences are given to patients in emergency situations. Maintains timely flow of patients. Greets patients and obtains well-documented history and vitals. Prepares patients for physical exam. Instructs patients in collection of samples and tests. Responds to incoming telephone calls and (per provider instructions) calls in refills and prescriptions to pharmacy. Per provider and/or established protocol, instructs patients and/or family with regard to medication and treatment and documents the same. Formulates and updates patient care plans. Orders, prepares, and inspects patient charts. Posts tests and examination results. Reviews patient’s tests and examination results with provider; documents instructions and notifies patient. Maintains patient files, records and other information in a professional manner following policies and procedures regarding documentation. Ensures preparation of exam rooms including re-stocking of treatment areas. Attends required meetings and participates in committees as requested. Participates in professional development activities and maintains professional licensure and affiliations.
