JOB LOCATION : Cancer Center
DEPARTMENT: PCC - MEDICAL ONCOLOGY PROF FEES
SCHEDULE: Full Time, 8 HR Day Shift,
POSITION SUMMARY
Promotes the delivery of quality patient care to Oncology and Hematology patients by receiving and triaging new patient referrals and incoming phone calls from patients/families/caregivers, assessing needs and providing instruction/education and/or directing to other team members for further care as necessary. Works closely with nurse navigators and other staff to meet the needs of clients. Serves as a liaison between nursing staff and physicians and other health care practitioners, schedules the patient for face to face visits to ensure appropriate certification of terminal illness, arranges for needed medications/DME/supplies, and obtains orders as needed. Documents all contacts and care provided in accordance with established policies/procedures. Assists with patient care in oncology clinic as directed by the Nurse Manager/Practice Manager/Administrative Director. Maintains an atmosphere which ensures SGMC’s values, goals, policies and procedures are consistently supported and enforced.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
- Current licensure as LPN in Georgia.
- Knowledge and skill in oncology nursing practice.
- Two years oncology clinical experience preferred.
- Demonstrated high levels of experience or expertise in crisis intervention, teaching/coaching, and diagnostic/monitoring with prior telephone triage nursing experience preferred.
- Must be flexible, with strong organizational skills with demonstrated ability to prioritize tasks and handle pressure.
- Must possess excellent human relations/interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written, with ability to form instant rapport.
- Must have demonstrated ability to handle delicate situations and to communicate effectively with members of the cancer center team, physicians and other referral sources, patients/families, and community agencies/institutions
- Must demonstrate good judgment and critical thinking skills; Must possess strong clinical skills in assessment, intervention, documentation, and evaluation.
- Required ability to operate clinical equipment, computer and telecommunications devices.
Duties require considerable sitting, standing, stooping, bending and lifting (in excess of 50 lbs.). Must be able to push objects (carts, beds, wheelchairs), and have ability to operate office equipment. Considerable mental effort, ability to work in confined high stress environment. Able to formulate judgments based on the recognition of normal physiology and signs and symptoms of disease processes. Liaison for unit to patients and families, physicians, other health care employees and departments, nursing and hospital administration
