Job Summary

The Department of Perioperative Services at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University is seeking a full time Registered Nurse 1, Operating Room.

The Registered Nurse 1 (T&RC) is a full performance level nurse position and possesses a license as a registered professional nurse in New York State; under the general direction of a higher level registered nurse or licensed health care provider, independently provides direct nursing care to individuals in accordance with Article 139 of the Education Law; supervises nursing care activities; and provides clinical supervision and training to Graduate Nurses (T&RC), Teaching & Research Center Licensed Practical Nurses, and direct care staff.

Illustrative Duties

  • Prepares or assists with preparation of nursing care plans consistent with individuals’ comprehensive treatment plans and medical needs.
  • Carries out treatment procedures, administers medications, and monitors individuals’ conditions.
  • Records notes and maintains individuals’ medical records and nursing care plans, including nursing care, medications, and treatments, reactions to care and treatment, intake and output of liquids and solids, and vital signs.
  • Participates in the development, implementation, and revision of individual care plans as a member of a multidisciplinary treatment team.
  • Modifies nursing care plans based on individual condition and responses to care and treatment.
  • Triages individuals by inquiring about illnesses, injuries, and symptoms, and records findings and observations.
  • Assesses findings, and either refers individuals directly to a physician in emergency cases or initiates appropriate remedial action; as directed, assists physicians with treatment functions.
  • Provides education and counseling to individuals and families regarding health, medications, procedures, and treatment goals.
  • Practices and ensures compliance with established infection control policies and procedures.
  • May train paraprofessional staff by demonstrating nursing techniques and providing instructions on use of techniques and nursing equipment.

Required Qualifications

  • Open Competitive: possession of a license and current registration as a registered professional nurse in New York State.

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing.
  • 1 year of relevant clinical experience.

  • $103,814 to $125,138 based on years of experience and education (includes Location Pay & Geographic Differential) plus shift and/or inconvenience pay of $575 to $5,375, if applicable.

Staff Nurse – RN – Behavioral Health Inpatient– Adolescent Unit/2N – Nights In this role you will be working in an 18-bed general acute psychiatric inpatient unit, serving adolescents between the ages 12 to 17 years old with various types of psychiatric, behavioral and adjustment problems that affect their family, community and school life. Our purpose is to provide a safe and therapeutic environment for adolescents to work on psychiatric, behavioral and adjustment issues. Our duty is to help patients effectively communicate their issues and concerns in a socially acceptable and productive way. Services include structured therapeutic milieu, medication management, family and group therapy, on unit classroom and community-based resource support. This is a full-time (40hrs) night shift (3/12 hrs and an additional 8hrs (biweekly), including rotating weekend (Saturday & Sunday) coverage at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital / Westchester Behavioral Health Center Preferred Criteria At least one year of RN experience and/or capstone or a senior clinical rotation with a preceptor Nursing Certification/s Required Criteria Bachelor’s degree in nursing Current New York State RN license BCLS certification Knowledge of nursing process: social, behavioral, biological and physical science Knowledge of current health care environment Knowledge of customer service principles Knowledge of effective interpersonal communication skills Knowledge of use of computer applications Ability to analyze patient care data to deliver and evaluate care New Grads must complete Nurse Residency Program Join a healthcare system where employee engagement is at an all-time high.
