About the Job:

OR Nurses provide sterility and safety for all surgical procedures. You must examine, take vital signs, verify allergies, and answer questions to prepare patients for surgery. You must also monitor each patient, record vital signs changes, and use sterile equipment during operation. After surgery, you must dispose of medical waste and disinfect the OR room before closing. You must ensure patient safety and satisfaction before, during, and after surgery. This professional ensures that all procedures go smoothly and that patients return home healthy. What You’ll Do:

Assessing patient needs before, during and after a surgical procedure.
Operating specialized medical equipment including anesthesia machines and ventilators.
Preparing patients for surgery by scrubbing, gowning, and positioning them on the operating table.
Monitoring vital signs of patients while they are under general anesthesia. Additionally, maintaining records of medications administered to ensure accuracy.

Who You Are:

Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred.
Minimum two (2) years’ experience as a circulator required.
New Hampshire Registered Nurse or Compact State Registered Nurse License required.
Ability to obtain BLS qualification during orientation period and maintain during employment. ACLS preferred.

Unit Summary This Oncology Intermediate Care Unit is a 16- bed critical care unit that consists of 2 private rooms and 7 semi-private rooms. OCU cares for adult acute care patients who have a wide variety of diagnoses and co-morbidities providing comprehensive care according to the scope of care defined by the hospital, Massachusetts Nurse Practice Act, American Nurses Association scope and Standards of Practice, and Quality Caring framework and professional practice model at Lowell General Hospital. Diagnoses include but are not limited to; chest pain, congestive heart failure, new onset A-fib, post cardiac catheterization patients, COPD, patients requiring high flow and bipap, GI bleed, and we specialize in oncology/hematology which includes administration of chemotherapy. The nurse:patient ratio is less than on the medical surgical floors, allowing patients to be more closely monitored. Hours: 36 hours per week- day/evening shift Required Qualifications: Current RN licensure in the state of MA in good standing is required BSN is strongly preferred Candidates with an Associate’s degree in nursing may be considered, and are encouraged to enroll in a BSN program within 1 year of hire A minimum of 1-2 years in telemetry or intermediate care setting is preferred BLS required ACLS preferred Lowell General's Intensive Care Unit, or ICU, is designed for the latest in critical care services. Patients who are critically ill are closely monitored around the clock by a team of specially educated, experienced physicians and nurses. The ICU's unique design enables the nursing and physician staff to have a full view of virtually all patients at all times. Each of the single rooms has state-of-the-art technology that enables staff to monitor patients' vital signs continually.
