Job Description Summary:
The in-home caregiver is a member of the home care team to perform various personal care services as necessary to meet the client’s needs, according to the invidualized and personalized plan of care. The in-home caregiver is responsible for observing clients, reporting these observations, and documenting observations and care performed.
The caregiver will be assigned in a manner that promotes quality, continuity, and safety of a client’s care.
Essential Job Responsibilities:
Responsibilities of the caregiver include, but are not limited to the following:
- Assist clients with personal hygiene tasks such as bathing, grooming, dressing and toileting
- Prepare meals according to the client’s dietary restrictions and assist with eating if needed
- Assist with medication reminders as directed by healthcare providers
- Help clients with mobility needs such as walking assistance and bed transfer
- Perform light housekeeping tasks to maintain a clean environment
- Provide emotional support and companionship to clients
- Maintain accurate records of care provided and monitor and communicate any changes in client condition
- Work with other healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated care and support for the client
Qualifications:
- High school diploma, GED required;
- Driver's License required with 3 years of driving experience
- Successful completion of HHA / CNA from an approved provider.
- Minimum one (1) year of documented experience required;
- Must consent to and pass a criminal background check;
- Self-directing with the ability to work with little direct supervision;
- Demonstrate effective oral and written communication skills;
- Ability to express spoken and/or written ideas in English;
- Works as a team member.
Job Limitations:
The caregiver will not function in any manner viewed as the practice of nursing according to practice acts. Specifically, the caregiver will not administer medications, take physician’s orders, or perform procedures requiring the training, knowledge and skill of a Licensed Nurse.
Working Conditions:
Contact with clients in their living environment. May be required to respond in an emergency situation. Travel required. Position includes tasks that have the potential for a medium level of exposure to blood and other potentially infectious material (OPIM) such as body fluids/tissues..
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to stand, walk, squat, bend, kneel, reach, twist, push and pull. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
