Job Responsibilities

  • Provide holistic nursing care to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities
  • Observe, assess, and evaluate the health needs or the people we support
  • Provide health related training to unlicensed personnel
  • Teach the people we serve to monitor their health and provide medication administration training to the people we serve when appropriate
  • Administer medications and treatments or assist the person supported with medication administration
  • Assist with ensuring preventative and routine medical appointments are scheduled
  • Conduct medication closest assessments
  • Perform quality assurance checks and observations to ensure unlicensed personnel are performing health related tasks as assigned
  • Collect health related data
  • Conduct nursing assessments
  • Observe for and report any abnormal health related findings to the physician
  • Communicate with physicians, pharmacies, medical suppliers, and the Interdisciplinary Team
  • Advocate for the people supported and assist with developing community supports to promote optimal health for the people supported

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited registered nurse program
  • BSN preferred, but not required
  • Current nursing license with no restrictions to practice nursing.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with Interdisciplinary Team Members, as well as the people supported and their families
  • Must be able to work independently, be organized, and possess the ability to prioritize work tasks
  • Current CPR Certification or eligibility to obtain certification

​ Physical requirements include: ability to regularly lift 20 pounds. Must be able to lift a minimum of 40 pounds. Must be able to pull a minimum of 25 pounds. Must be able to squat, kneel, crawl, crouch, climb, and stoop. Must be able to regularly stand and walk. Must be able to demonstrate proficiency in CPR from the floor level. Vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, and peripheral vision. Must be able to communicate.
