Provides patient care by assisting with the implementation of care plans. Takes and records vital signs such as blood pressures, temperatures, height, weight, etc. Performs EKG’s, assists physician and others with clinical procedures such as urine cultures, pregnancy tests, throat cultures, etc. Draws blood. Performs a variety of clerical functions to support office functions.

I. Major Responsibilities:

1. Provides patient care. Assesses health status, implements care plans, documents interventions and evaluates patient progress following standard procedures.

2. Coordinates patient flow and prepares patient for examination. Takes and records vital signs and EKG's. Documents intake questions. Assists physician and others in clinical procedures as required or directed. Performs other basic clinical procedures such as venipuncture. 

3. Performs basic office laboratory procedures such as urinalysis, urine culture, , pregnancy tests, throat cultures and related procedures. Draws blood as required or directed.

4. Returns patient calls and documents in patient record as required or directed by the RN or physician.

5. Obtains laboratory results. Ensures results are brought to the attention of the physicians and others as appropriate.

6. Maintains records, reports, logs and other statistical information as required or directed.

7. Performs a variety of clerical duties such as typing, filing, scheduling appointments, making phone call and related duties as required or directed.

8. Maintains assigned departmental and/or clinical supplies. Ensures accurate inventory of supplies based on approved levels. Rotates stock as required. Initiates requisitions for re-supply or special items.

II. Position Qualifications:

License/Certification/Education:

Required:

1. Certification as a Medical Assistant within six (6) months of hire and must be maintained.

Preferred:

1. High School diploma or equivalent plus completion of accredited program in Medical Assisting at an accredited school.

Experience/Skills:

Required:

1. Knowledge of office and laboratory procedures.

Preferred: 

1. Minimum three (3) years of relevant experience.
