Per Diem Registered Nurse III - Emergency Services - Santa Paula

Under general direction, the Emergency Department Registered Nurse will be responsible for providing rapid and high-quality nursing care to patients and to the community within the Santa Paula Hospital. As a key member of our team, you will collaborate with other healthcare professionals to ensure that our patients receive timely and effective care. With a keen ability to remain calm under pressure and a commitment to ongoing education and training, emergency department nurses ensure that patients receive the critical attention they need while navigating complex medical emergencies with skill and compassion. Distinguishing Characteristics The Per Diem Nurse is distinguished from the Registered Nurse classification in that Per Diem Nurses are scheduled to work on an as-needed basis (intermittent) to supplement staffing needs. In addition to the annual salary, an employee within these positions may also be eligible for the following, subject to the applicable section of the respective Memorandum of Agreement. Educational Incentive: Possible educational incentive based on completion of Bachelor's or Master's degree. Duties may include but are not limited to the following: Uses the full scope of the Nurse Practice Act to assess, plan, organize, and provide nursing care to assigned patients. Documents patient treatment and dispensing; makes patient observations; records and reports on all pertinent information, including changes in patient condition and general progress. Provides follow-through on judgment within the scope of accepted nursing practice. Manages high-stress situations and maintains composure under pressure to provide efficient and effective care to multiple patients. Follows prescribed doctors' orders concerning treatments and medications. Assists doctors in examination and treatment. Provides unit organization and is responsible for completion of all delegated and indicated nursing duties by the end of the assigned shift. Assists in training, supervision, and evaluation of new and ancillary personnel. Maintains current knowledge of nursing care developments and therapeutic measures; attends department in-services and staff development programs. In Ambulatory Medicine areas, provides physician assistance and patient care as indicated and required. May participate in quality assurance/utilization review or other non-direct patient care nursing assignments. Engages in ongoing education and training to stay current with best practices in emergency nursing care. Performs other related duties as required. Education, Training, Experience At least five (5) years of experience in an emergency department. Necessary Special Requirement Must be willing to be assigned/work in Santa Paula Hospital. Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing. Must possess and maintain a current valid license as a Registered Nurse issued by the State of California, or licensure in another state with California licensure pending. Must possess valid Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) Certificate PRIOR to the first day of employment. Must possess and maintain a current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification. Must obtain an Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course (ENPC) certification OR a Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification within six (6) months of employment. Incumbents are required to successfully complete an EKG exam with a minimum score of 80% within six (6) months of their hire date. Up to two attempts will be permitted to achieve a passing score. Successful completion of the Health Care Agency Pharmacology examination within three (3) months of employment is mandatory for assignments within the Health Care Agency. **These competency requirements are in conformance with the California Board of Registered Nurses nursing requirements. ** DESIRED Possession of the following certifications: Mobile Intensive Care Nurse (MICN) certification National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) Certification Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) Certification Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Working knowledge of: the theory, techniques, and practices of professional nursing; medical terminology and hospital routine and equipment; and medicines and narcotics. OVERVIEW Under direct supervision, the Public Health Nurse provides professional public health nursing services in a variety of community settings focusing on promoting health and wellness through education, advocacy, referrals, primary care, case management, and service coordination. Our Public Health Nurses play a vital role in advancing health initiatives and programs throughout Ventura County aimed at protecting and promoting the health of individuals, families, and communities. Some of these programs include home visitation services providing case management and care coordination across the lifespan, communicable disease investigation, and specialty clinics such as the Tuberculosis Specialty Clinic and the Public Health Clinic.
