Salary Range: starting at $135,000 (DOE) What You’ll Do: Patient Care Appropriately and consistently prioritize, organize, coordinate, and evaluate Nursing Department tasks and workload. Perform and direct patient care duties within practice scope as needed, in conformance with recognized standards, techniques, and procedures. Direct, guide, and assist Department staff to execute responsibilities of their positions. Assist Department staff with problematic patients, patient family members, and patient visitors. Assess and evaluate quality of Department care and service provision by Hospital staff. Coordinate Department service provision with that of other Hospital Departments. Staff Management Help to ensure that Department staff are appropriately knowledgeable, competent, and skilled for the tasks they are assigned. Perform responsibilities of supervised staff as need arises. Periodically assess Department staffing needs. Hire, educate, and terminate Department staff, and assist with Department staff orientation. Assist with post-probationary evaluation of new Department staff and annual evaluation of Department staff. Assist with development of remedial plans for Department staff or discipline staff as is indicated. Assist with placement and direction of Hospital volunteers. Organize and direct regular meetings of Department staff. Ensure effective means of intradepartmental communication. Ensure that all supervised staff attend mandatory annual in-service. Ensure that Department staff consistently cooperate and collaborate with other staff in other Hospital Departments. Perform Shift Supervisor duties as needed. Department Standards Design and manage Department patient care standards. Design and manage Department policy and procedure. Evaluate and ensure compliance with Department policy and procedure. Educate Hospital staff about Hospital policy and procedure. Performance Improvement Participate in and ensure Department participation in Hospital Performance Improvement activity. Assess progress toward reaching Department goals. Coordinate Department services with needs of other Departments. Review and assess Department needs for new equipment, supplies, and services, and communicate such needs to CNO. Disaster Management Assess and evaluate potential internal or external disaster and know when to activate the Hospital disaster plan (i.e. the “All-Hazard Emergency Operations Plan”). Evaluate the Hospital disaster plan annually and as is needed. As is applicable according to assignment, assume leadership role during disaster, patient emergency, and trauma activation. Community Relations Serve as Public Information Officer during community relations staff absence. Continually evaluate needs of Hospital, Hospital staff, patients, patient family members, and patient visitors, and ensure such needs are being met. Visit Hospital patients and seek feedback about the Hospital from such patients. Provide empathetic support to distressed patients and patient families. Discuss with patients and patient families their concerns and complaints about the Department or Hospital. Serve as a Hospital representative in interaction with the community and other external entities. Qualifications What You’ll Need : Current unencumbered licensure to practice nursing as a Registered Nurse in the State of Oregon. 5 years of acute care RN experience. 2 years of hospital-based ICU experience preferred. Minimum of 2 years progressive management experience. Current BLS and ACLS within 6 months of hire. Able to perform all mental and physical duties of the job. Exceptional customer service, critical thinking, organizational and problem-solving skills. Strong team player, positive attitude, and great work ethic. DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION The Emergency Department welcomes all patients with a wide variety of medical conditions ranging from non-critical to emergent medical needs. Emergency Department staff are certified to care for critical patients including trauma and children. The Registered Nurse (RN) provides safe, age-appropriate, direct and indirect patient care utilizing the nursing process within the Oregon State Board of Nursing’s scope of practice. It will consist of 12-hour shifts (Day and Night Shifts Available) RESPONSIBILITIES Ability to communicate clearly and concisely with diverse population from pediatrics to geriatrics. General understanding of age-related differences in caring for all patients and possess personal sensitivity to the needs and experiences of others with a non-judgmental attitude. Ability to prioritize and coordinate multiple tasks and appropriately adapt to diverse and high-risk situations to offer the best possible care to patients. Ability to manage time in an organized fashion, planning and prioritizing work in a fast-paced environment under pressure.
