DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Pediatric Inpatient Registered Nurse Ability to perform a head-to-toe assessment on all patients and reassessments as per policy. Ability to adequately assess and reassess pain using the appropriate pain scale based on the patient’s age and developmental stage. Utilizes appropriate pain management techniques. Educates the patient and family regarding pain management. Ability to revise plan of care as indicated by the patient’s response to treatment and evaluate overall plan daily for effectiveness. Ability to perform glucometer testing (point-of-care testing), read and take appropriate action on glucometer test results per Clinical Laboratory’s and the patient care unit’s policies and procedures Performs patient care responsibilities considering needs specific to the standard of care for patient’s age. Provides patient care in a patient and family-centered manner. Knowledge of medications and their correct administration based on the weight/age of the patient and their clinical condition. Follow the five 5 medication rights and reduce the potential for medication errors. Provides age appropriate education based upon identified learning needs and evaluates effectiveness of learning to both patients and families. Demonstrates an ability to assist physicians with procedures and performs services and treatments requiring technical and manual skills within scope of practice and per policy.
