What is per diem nursing?
“Per diem” is Latin for “by the day,” so per diem nursing simply refers to nurses who are scheduled to work on a day-to-day basis. Per diem nurses typically aren’t full-time employees of one specific hospital, division, or care facility, so they’re able to fill shifts anywhere when needed. Many choose to go the per diem route because it provides greater flexibility and control over one’s schedule. It also allows nurses to work in different environments, which can keep the job exciting.
