Serves as a charge nurse by preparing schedules and assigning team members to patients; overseeing the admission, discharge, and general flow of patients; and monitoring and ordering medicines and supplies. Works with team members to create individualized plans of care to meet a patient needs. Interprets and explains regulatory standards and hospital policies, procedures, and rules to employees and ensures compliance with applicable quality and safety initiatives and practices. Ensures staffing resources are utilized appropriately and shifts resources to meet both patient and unit needs. Partners with a multidisciplinary team in meeting the clinical needs of patients and families. Rounds with patients, families and team members to promote patient family experience and quality patient care. Resolves operational and patient/family issues, making decisions that are inclusive of multiple perspectives and solves underlying problems. Assists team members in achieving unit outcomes, performance and professional development standards; identifies opportunities for continual improvement. Champions clinical practice and professional growth by working with the CNE/CNS to meet the educational needs of the unit/department and by monitoring and evaluating staff competencies. Develops, coaches, and evaluates team members. Mentors team members in creating/evaluating projects focused on improving clinical practice. Provides advice to Clinical Manager on decisions involving hiring, terminations, promotions, and disciplinary actions as required. Monitors expenditures for unit/department and participates in the development of budget recommendations. Minimum Qualifications EDUCATION – Bachelor’s degree in Nursing. Master’s degree in Nursing or a directly related health care field is preferred. EXPERIENCE – Three years of clinical experience. EQUIVALENCY – None LICENSURE – Registered Nurse (RN) CERTIFICATION(S) – BLS/CPR from the American Heart Association with at least 6 months left before expiration is required upon hire. ANCC recognized certification in clinical specialty. Depending on the unit/department, employees may also be required to have a Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), Adult Advanced Life Support (ACLS), and/or Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course (ENPC). Assumes supervisor responsibility for the facility on 2nd and/or 3rd shifts and/or weekends. 13. Audits emergency drug cart and crash cart to assure they are properly stocked. 14. Audits control of drugs and counts controlled medications at the beginning and end of each shift. 15. Ensures that all peripheral IVs are initiated per facility policy and monitors overall IV program. Ensures IV policy is updated annually. 16. Responsible to assign nursing personnel in emergencies to maintain patient care hours. 17. Assists in the recruitment, selection and of orientation nursing staff as needed. 18. If facility directed, completes 90-day and annual employee performance reviews. 19. Logs and returns all eligible medications to the pharmacy in a timely manner. 20. If facility directed, assumes responsibility for Medicare residents by attending weekly Medicare meetings and assuring that certifications are completed. 21. Attends meetings appropriately including but not limited to Fall Risk, Restraint, Wound Care, and Weight Loss meetings. 22. Assumes any other duties as assigned by DNS/ADNS.
